I love teachers, but some of them do seem to be the worst offenders. D & her friends want to nominate their AP Calc teacher

While I have seen it a time or two, I do wish they would show an outfit that DOES include a pair of nice tennies - I GOTTA have my tennies every once in a while!!!

Also, I think they really frown on capris, but I’m not giving mine up!

abasket, in the one I’m watching right now, the young lady is showing off her capris and a cute top outfit!

Were they capris or bermudas - I know S and C love bermudas.

Wouldn’t you love to hear the advice they would give you? What colors they would tell me to wear, what styles, what color Nick would give my hair, how simple Carmondy would keep my make-up, etc. etc.

Another guilty watcher here. I got hooked on the original British version, too, and now I see that Susannah and Trinny have come to the US. They made over some waitress in NJ recently. I do prefer Clinton and Stacy’s attitude usually. Although I almost always like Nick’s haircuts, I do sometimes wonder who would otherwise have their hair done by someone who keeps his own hair like Nick.

I’ve watched it a few times, but it makes me too anxious, thinking about all the mistakes I’ve undoubtedly been making all these years. A “fashionista” I’m definitely not!

I agree that Nick’s hair is a major disaster way more than 50% of the time. But, for everyone else, I think he is a GENIUS.

Never seen it, but 18yo D is always threatening to get me on the show.

I too started with the British version, and at first I didn’t like Stacey and Clinton, but they’ve grown on me. What I want to know is what they’re going to do when fashions change and they can no longer dress nearly everyone in those crossover v-neck print tops and dresses to emphasize their waists?

I also am a watcher–and the next vice–who has seen “Say Yes to the Dress”? My D is nowhere near the wedding dress market, but I LOVE watching that show. It makes me sad that I missed out on buying my own wedding dress–I borrowed a beautiful dress from my best friend because I thought that shopping for a dress was a waste of time and much too complicated. I was probably right–but now I see what I missed. Of course, that was only (!) 27 years ago . . .

Raising hand - “Say Yes” fan too!!!

LOVE “What Not to Wear”! I don’t usually get to see the Friday evening show and the episodes during the day are often repeats - wish they would recycle some of those new episodes to the daytime!

I try to look at the body type of the person they are working with to see if their advice would apply to me. I think I am a hopeless fashion disaster as I am often not sure if the advice I sort of try to follow when buying clothes is right for me at all! Seem to get all those tips mixed up - bootcut jean??, straight leg jeans??, wide leg jeans??, v-neck tops??, wide strap tops??, tops with a high defined waist??, A-line skirt??, etc. etc.
Just seems overwhelming!

MidwestParent: After you’ve seen 50 or 60 episodes, it starts to sink in.

I love the show but doesn’t it always come down to: fitted jackets, wide legged dark wash jeans, good undergarments, the correct shaped skirt. I always think the hair and make up add alot.

I never get why people are so freaky about getting a hair cut. Their hair almost always looks awful…like that really weird 6 foot tall nanny a few years ago…

anitaw, yes to both your points. The best things I’ve learned from the show are to get a really good, well-fitting bra and stay away from “mom jeans”. And if you don’t like the haircut, it will grow back!

Yes and I went out and bought some dark denim trousers, went to a bra fitting, got some pointy toed shoes, and stopped wearing turtlenecks. lol

My daughter and I used to have a Friday night “date” watching WNTW. We still try to watch whenever she’s home. When she’s at school we try to watch together while on the phone. And we also watch Say Yes to the Dress. Now she often has real dates on Friday nights and I miss watching with her, but I still watch! I’ve gotten some useful tips, but they rarely have anyone my age (55) and a lot of the tips are for younger women (sparkley eye shadow!?!).

My younger daughter and I watch this show. I keep asking people to nominate me for it–I am a hopeless idiot at choosing clothes, and I would to get expert advice and a big shopping spree paid for!

If there are only two barbers in your town, one’s neatly groomed and the other has a terrible haircut, which one would you like to cut your hair? ;)

I walked into a Gene Juarez salon, observed the stylists, picked the one with a haircut I wanted, and asked her who cut her hair. Then I made my appointment with the stylist recommended by this lady. :)

I’ve seen a few episodes but the one I love in this genre is Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style. I suppose I love the way he explains WHY we should wear (or stay away) from certain styles, dependent upon body shapes. It’s made me completely understand why in one shirt I look square and overweight and in another form-fitted one I look fantastic.

I’d watch “What Not” if they would provide more lesson to their program. Maybe they do now?
