You’re talking to a woman who has had the same style since middle school! Just never got around to changing it. It’s awful!

You’re talking to a woman who has had the same style since middle school! Just never got around to changing it. It’s awful!

Recently I got, after being inspired by a Nick cut, a haircut I refer to as my ‘terminal’ hair cut. I will wear my hair like this for the next 28-48 years I have left (rough estimate). It is made possible by the new keratin treatments which make frizzy hair pliable.

Because the show is not shown where I live, I buy it by the season and watch at my leisure…and I am fanatical about Friday nights when I am in the US…

Yes, trouser jeans were a revelation.

I’ve never seen it–no cable–but I did read the entire book by the two English women while standing up at BJ’s. :D

Why do so many whinge and moan and fuss at a hair cut- you would not be on the show if you were lookin good, so go with it! It will grow back.

I wish they would change the format and take the person out on day one and train them to shop properly, THEN send them out on their own.

I wish they would do the hair and makeup on Day One. Then the person would feel much better and get on with the wardrobe transformation much easier.

Nick the hairdresser has a website. He charges $500 for a haircut. If I win the lottery, I’ll book an appointment. I’d love for him to cut and style my straight limp hair!

I wonder if they really make the fashion victims throw away all of their old clothes…

somemom, I’m with you. What’s the point in sending the person out on their own to shop? It’s always an exercise in frustration and then Stacey and Clinton make them return those clothes anyway. As for Nick, there is no way I’d let him near me with that razor. Unless you’ve got poker straight hair, you wind up with frizz and fly-aways when you attempt to style it on your own.

That being said, I have to admit that when I’m out shopping or choosing something from my own closet, I always ask myself whether S and C would approve. Don’t you wish they’d post the brands of each item on the screen alongside the outfit?

I think S&C watch their shopping and jump in if it goes way off course. If the makeover “victim” struggles too much or does not follow the 'rules", they come to the rescue.

I always like to try and figure out where they are shopping - you know, exactly what store it is. Seems they use a lot of smaller boutiques as well. I remember once they had a guy on (they haven’t done any guys in awhile…) and he was a real simple guy and one of the stores they had him shop at was Old Navy - it was great, cause he went up to that cash register with a PILE of clothes and the total was like $200!!!

I also always wonder if they worked with me what type of stores would they pick as “right” for me.

I am very tired of Nick nastily teasing the person when she acknowledges that she’s nervous. It’s getting a little old.

(BTW, for those of you truly obsessed, TLC has a website where you can chat about the show. Not that I would ever do that.)

I have watched several times, even though I have virtually no interest in clothing styles. It seems the typical makeover choice is a grossly overweight young woman with a poor self image. At the end they seem to be transformed and have a greatly improved self image. Of course the the individual is as fat as when they started and needs to spend more time worrying about what they shovel in. Sorry the tailored clothing really makes little difference.

I SO prefer Tim Gunn’s Guide to style. Less of the humiliation, more of the empathy. None of the secret camera/ let’s mock you in front of your friends.

Also, I have feet that if I am on them in heels all day. I’d LOVE it if they’d show a pair of shoes that are truly comfortable AND stylish. I know my Finn Comforts aren’t. But I could wear them 24/7 and my feet would never, ever hurt. Show me a pointy toe or heel that can make that claim. But they insist that comfort fall victim to style, and I’m not sold on that one.

Count me in as guilty! It has now come to the point where my H makes fun of me because it seems I always have TLC on. Besides WNTW (Clinton was recently featured in my Boston College Alumni Magazine - I think he was class of '91), I also must admit that I watch: Little People, Big World; Say Yes to the Dress; Jon & Kate Plus Eight; 17 Kids (18) and Counting; and several of the home shows that run on the weekends -can’t remember their names right now). I draw the line at the new Toddlers and Tiaras - not a fan of kiddie pageants at all!

mom2three, a couple of years ago on one of their shows they had a middle-aged lady who had to wear orthotics in her shoes. As I recall, C&S had to deviate from pointy toes quite a bit :)

(For stylish and comfortable, I recommend looking into Sofft, Ecco and Reiker shoes and boots)

Lots of people must be watching…Saturday night I was at an event and I would estimate 80% of the women there were wearing dark wash trouser jeans with pointy shoes or boots. (myself included)

I love the show. One of very few that I watch. I also like Say Yes to the Dress, Discovery Health and News. Overall, I do not like TV much, it is just on, while I am busy with something else.

I used to watch the English version with Trinny & Susannah years ago on BBC America, but when it disappeared I switched to Stacy & Clinton. I adore Clinton, but Stacy can be just a bit too harsh and catty sometimes.

It’s fun to see the before and after transformation, but I do wish they’d stop mocking women who hate to shop. They act as if we all have nothing better to do with our time than worry about style and fashion 24/7. And I’ve often wondered if I would accept that big fat credit card if I had to submit to Nick chopping off my hair! He acts as if no woman should be allowed to have long hair–except Stacy & Carmindy for some reason–and he is a bit nasty toward those women who resist. I’ve known since my ill-fated Twiggy hair cut when I was eleven that short hair doesn’t work with wide cheekbones–I’ll have shoulder-length hair till I die!
(And I’d put my stylist up against him any day for the beautiful cut/color she does at far less than $500 a pop).

I love the show, but Nick is the weak link. I wouldn’t let him get anywhere near my hair.

I agree. I don’t like him. I don’t think he’s kind.

Edit: Although I do think he usually does well with the haircut. But I don’t like him.

Clothes are nice, but a new hairdo does so much to update a person’s looks–men & women. (I would pay $500 for a haircut if I were sure that the result would come out as good as Nick’s!)
