Does being a letterman look good for college applications?

I’m currently in cross country, and wish to be in the sport for the rest of high school. At my school, if you stick with a sport for all four years you get a letterman jacket, regardless of if you ever make varsity or not. I really want to try and accomplish this, but I fear that if I’m in XC for my last year or two I won’t have enough room in my schedule for AP courses and such. So, does sticking with a sport for all four years/being a letterman help to get into college, or is it more just a personal achievement?

I think that XC is a great way to stay in shape.
It is a life time sport.
It shows you that you can have teamwork and persistence.
You will make friends.

You will have time for AP courses…you quickly learn to be efficient in your studying/homework.

My daughter, who takes AP and honors courses, started doing much better in school once she started running XC. She doesn’t fall into that “oh, I have all weekend, I don’t need to start that yet” trap.

The teachers at my kids’ high school said they love getting distance runners in their classes, because the students tend to work harder and have better attitudes. And I know it helps kids feel better about themselves. Go for it!
