Does being a Teacher's Assistant count for Community Service Hours?

So I go to a school that works in conjunction with the Houston Community College system, and we take a combination of high school and college classes. Obviously the college classes only meet twice a week (And we do block scheduling) so on fridays it is either an A day or a B day and if you have college classes for any of those class periods, you just have an off period.

On A fridays I have 1 free period and 2 on B fridays. I never really seem to have any homework at those times so its not very useful for studying. I also don’t have any friends with the same off period so just chilling isn’t an option. So the dean gave students in that position 2 options… we can either be a Teacher’s Assistant during those periods or we can walk across the street to the middle school and volunteer there.

I know for sure that once they get the middle school thing up and running I can do that for Community Service hours, but will being a T.A. count too? Because then I would get to help my old Biology teacher rather than help some middle school kids with baby-level science or math or something. Thanks!

In my experience, helping a middle school teacher in a different school actually involves work, whereas helping a former teacher of yours at your school mostly consists of laying around and doing nothing. You do a bit of work, but not much.
If you end up doing work, then, yeah, count it as community service. If you go sit in the back of class and take a nap everyday or use it as a study hall, then don’t.

Well I’d probaby be helping set up labs and then helping kids with their homework (the last 1/3 of her class period was usually given to work on homework). But as far as in the eyes of the schools administration and such will it cout as community service? Like I sad i’d rather help with high school Bio but if it doesn’t count then it’d be more productiveto help the middle school…

i helped my 3rd grade teacher & my pre-school a couple of years ago & i included it as such.

I think it counts.

■■■■■, everytime I read your name TheycallmeCC, “that’s not my name” by the ting tings gets stuck in my head.

“TheyCallMeCC” very creative name ")
Re OP: I believe it does count…it did for me

I think it would fall under tutoring, not community service, because you’re not advancing the community as a whole.
