I am an out of state student (from AZ) and will be applying this fall to Cal Poly, I think early decision. Does Cal Poly offer tuition wavers to allow oos students to pay in state tuition?? And if they do what would be the chances for me to get a oos tuition waiver or even smaller scholarships?
My stats…
SAT M-780 CR-680 (1460/1600)
GPA 3.95 uw 4.6w
75+ hours of community service, not much ec’s

Also, does anyone know if I apply early decision and get accepted, can I reject it if they dont offer any scholarships or tuition waivers? (I most likely wont qualify for financial aid)

I don’t know the specifics for oos students, but as a state school experiencing very tough financial issues, they have limited funds to go around. Even with our EFC of 0, my daughter’s aid package includes very little in grant money directly from Cal Poly. Most of it is state and federal aid plus the dreaded loans… I wouldn’t expect much, but keep an eye out for emails regarding scholarships related to your major.

Hi wcw,
We’re OOS too. It seems like OOS kids with stats like yours are getting an outreach scholarship in the neighborhood of 1-2 K. Not amazing, but quite helpful. Best wishes!

I’ve never heard of OOS being waived at Cal Poly, but then again there aren’t very many OOS students there. Each department offers a number of small scholarships to new and continuing students, but most are need-based.

I’d say your chances of getting your total cost down to that of the in-state cost are pretty slim.
