I’m an adult who wants to return to school sometime in the future to get an undergraduate degree. I live in Nebraska, which only has one state school, and due to a lot of red tape regarding financial aid, it’s not financially feasible for me to finish my degree here. That’s why relocating to another state to work for a year to achieve in-state residency is attractive for me.
I’ve been looking into moving to California, because from what I’ve read online, it seems as though California community colleges have unusually strong programs and relationships with public universities for transferring students into four-year degree programs. The big problem with this plan is that the cost of living is dramatically higher here than just about anywhere else in the country, so I definitely don’t want to make this decision hastily.
Are there really more educational opportunities for California community college students, or is this impression biased by unrelated factors? Are there other community colleges that attract many out-of-state or international students elsewhere in the country in places that are more affordable?
Thanks!
