I see “Honor Roll” quite frequently as an academic honor and was wondering if “class valedictorian” would also qualify as an academic honor. This school in particular does not want my transcript when I submit the application, so they will not know my class rank.

Well…On the common application there is a spot for class rank. If it’s another application and it doesn’t ask for class rank, then I would consider class valedictorian as an honor. It’s not an easy thing to do. Then again, you are not for sure Valedictorian (knock on wood). Don’t you have a semester left before they actually determine that?

It is the University of California application, which does not ask for class rank. I have not “officially” been designated valedictorian (as senior awards will be given out at the end of the school year in May). So I’m not sure if it’s acceptable to put it on my application.

But at the same time, Honor Roll is also not “officially” designated until the end of the school year, but many people put it on their applications.

Valedictorian is an award granted at the end of the school year – I think a college might question the integrity of someone’s app if they saw that, and they may then question other things on your app. Don’t reach. If you are 95% sure that you will receive this award, you could possibly put “Valedictorian (anticipated)”

Honor Roll is earned each semester so you could legitimately put that on an application.
