Does everyone have their popcorn ready for Harry & Meghan?

Harry and William were both heirs to their mother’s estate, which I believe left them around ~50M each.

Google sez their net worth is about $60M.

If that $60M is invested and brings - conservatively - 4% annually, it provides $2.4M a year before taxes. Not a whole lot by royal standards, but not a poorhouse life either.

But remember, there will be income taxes to pay on the profit. And a nice realtor fee. And they have to pay off the loan, the balance of which is about $8.5 million.

I’m sure their house is not a large part of their net worth. They bought it with little down and have a mortgage…

I would have been a bit shocked if Guy Ritchie wanted to bring her into his project, given much of the UK sentiment. I saw jokes on social media predicting that the likelihood of the Guy Ritchie thing being true is similar to the likelihood of her camp claiming that she was going to be the next face of Dior or that she was taking meetings with Newsom about a position in congress.

If she truly wants to mend fences with the British public, she should step back and let Harry, who is the actual Royal here, take the lead on how they will assimilate back into royal life, in whatever capacity that is. I think the Brits could forgive Harry, given their love for Diana, but if Meghan tries to insert herself into everything, it will be harder.

I also question whether William and Harry will ever be close again but I’m guessing they will find a way to be amicable in public for the sake of appearances.

I think it’s interesting that people discuss what Meghan needs to do, should do etc to get back in the good graces of the people in the UK who didn’t give her a chance from day one. I’m sure the racism that was involved is still fresh in her mind.

That racism, particularly from the British press, has been on full display lately related to the events surrounding the death of Cambridge professor Jason Arday. The ugliness of the British media is truly remarkable at times. Also worth remembering that Harry’s friend, Caroline Flack (a TV presenter), died by suicide several years ago after being relentlessly hounded and harassed by the British press.

I don’t think that’s fair. While there’s always a minority opinion, the public initially greeted her warmly. The tabloids including the Daily Fail, with its “(almost) straight outta Compton” helped to shift opinion to the negative. But Meghan didn’t help the situation by not understanding British culture and by conflating American celebrity status with British royal duty

There is no excuse for what the British tabloids did to her.

Meghan isn’t stupid, which is why I believe the couple when they say they aren’t selling their home in California. They’d be foolish not to have a safe place to retreat to if things get ugly again. The stakes are even higher now because they have two children to protect. If the racism and hostility remain, why would they subject their kids to that?

I do think Meghan tried. Her entire style changed in an apparent effort to accommodate British expectations. But she is American, and this time around, I hope she feels free to simply be herself.

There is a lot I admire about British culture, but its insatiable appetite for garbage, gossip, and tabloid drama isn’t one of them.

Judging by the amount of people who turned out for their wedding, I believe they did give her a chance (as much as they would give to an American, anyway). It turned at some point - perhaps because she didn’t abide by some of the traditions (where she gave birth Archie and when she did her public “showing”). Her prerogative of course, but there were consequences. I’ve read the opinions of many in England who cite her (apparent) mockery of curtseying before the Queen on the Netflix special as the turning point. Even Harry looks uncomfortable in that scene.

In the Oprah interview, she outed racism by the highest members of the RF, in regard to how Archie’s skin color would appear when born, but then left it hanging without any detail, context or further action. Accusing the RF of racism is a very big deal.

I don’t think she tried very hard at all. My observation and opinion are that she had a picture in her head about how royal life would be and her role in it, and then she tried to steer it in that direction and it failed. Agree wholeheartedly about the British press - and they are historically notorious - especially given Diana’s fate. To the extent that Harry or anyone else didn’t properly counsel Meghan in that regard, also contributed to the failure.

If she (they) didn’t want the public to talk about it, they are perfectly in their right to live quietly, here or there, and not leak stories to the press.

Me too, but even in her Montecito era, she seemed to be trapped in some Martha Stewart-Gwyneth Paltrow-Nancy Myers cosplay. It was inauthentic. On the other hand, her online and onscreen persona before she got engaged was a fun, intelligent, social gal about town who seemed warm and appealing.

I really wonder what is their mindset with this move. Is it defiant, is it acquiescent, or is it purely situational driven by King Charles’ health?

I, too, could not stop laughing at the “alarming baldness” quip.

Wasn’t Harry only recently complaining about having no security as a reason NOT to take Meghan and the kids to the UK? Wonder how he’s overcome that, to the extent that now he is completely comfortable with them being there, effectively living as commoners?

This move has ramped up the British press - I can’t imagine it will be any easier for H&M this time around, and now they have kids to worry about. She hasn’t fully shown the kids’ here (her prerogative) but the American press doesn’t really care about them enough to be hiding in bushes. The British press, on the other hand, I wonder how that will go without the protection of the RF.

Now, Prince Harry is understood to have “privately pleaded” with Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood for a final decision over his family’s security funding, according to the Daily Mail.

The final decision is your request for publicly funded security is denied.

Asking the same question over and over - even if you change the word order - doesn’t yield a different response.

LOL. Harry wrote a book and they had Netflix show. Meghan gets on every show that’ll take her. They’ve spent every dime they made.
