Does everyone have their popcorn ready for Harry & Meghan?

I don’t think that has anything to do with their personal feelings about the players. It’s a once in a lifetime event, it’s their traditional, their country. Most are probably monarchists. They know it’s not for long until WC take over.

I’m not a Charles/Camilla fan, but I’ll watch. I love the pageantry, the clothes, the accessories (jewels, horses, carriages). Not a Harry and Meghan fan, but watched the wedding. Would I go and camp out just to catch a glimpse? No, but that’s because I don’t really like crowds.

I want Meghan to go and stuff her way in! I want to see her bow to all!

I think Meghan made the right decision 100% to not attend this spectacle.

Exactly! I have my bunting out, will set my alarm for 4.15am Central time, have crumpets ready for breakfast, and will have afternoon tea at 3. I love the pomp. I am a Monarchist.

I assume you aren’t Catholic…I certainly hope you aren’t. I’m not going to try to explain canon law to you, but as a Catholic who was granted an annulment and knows something about the process as a result, I can assure you that the length of the marriage and the existence of children have nothing to do with whether or not you are entitled to an annulment. I actually think that Kennedy would have been granted an annulment a lot faster if he didn’t have a famous surname and/or his non-Catholic wife, Sheila Rauch Kennedy, hadn’t written her idiotic book which completely misrepresented canon law. When I read the book, I thought she did a great job laying out the reasons he was entitled to an annulment–though that was not her intent. For the record, I didn’t hire a canon lawyer and my annulment cost less than a thousand dollars.

As for Henry 8, he did very much care whether he got an annulment or a divorce. He had received a dispensation from the Pope to marry Catherine of Aragon. He otherwise could not have married her because she was previously married to his brother. Henry argued that the Pope had no authority to grant him a dispensation. It wasn’t just about marrying Ann Boleyn. Henry sought to validate his marriage to Ann by claiming that his marriage to Katherine was void from the start because she was married to his brother. He wanted an annulment, not a divorce. Indeed, he had the C of E annul his marriage. He claimed that in recogonizing that the invalidity of his first marriage he was the Defender of Faith. It was also about the authority of the pope over a sovereign, which the Church of England repudiates.

In any event, as a Catholic who went through the process, I feel a need to make the point that there is nothing underhanded involved when a marriage which resulted in children is annulled.

In fact I AM a Catholic. If an annulment in your case was warranted, then that is good. I am a Catholic who uses his free will to think, and I know what I see. For many, like you, I am sure the process is helpful and healing. But please, take off the rose colored glasses–the annulment process HAS been misused for the powerful.

If your annulment did not require a canon lawyer and was not super-expensive, then your case was strong–I submit they are not all strong.

I do not take everything I am told (church included) at face value and think for myself.

I think we should move on.

Some might say that strange women distributing swords is no basis for a system of government…

Although given her previous profession, maybe there’s a surprise new part to the ceremony, where the king goes into a box, gets cut in half and then miraculously emerges unscathed?

So, who watched? I didn’t. I couldn’t bear to see Camilla with a crown. I know they’ve been married 17 years and that was really the love of his life. I know Charles and Diana were in an arranged marriage and barely knew one another.

I just can’t get past the anguish they put her through. And now Diana is dead and Camilla is Queen. It just seems so grossly unfair and not right.

My hopes are that when William is king, he restores her HRH.

I watched and enjoyed it. I’m okay with Camilla.
George did a great job as page. Glad to see Harry with his cousins.

@conmama - I’m right there with you. I have the same feelings about Camilla and did not watch.

I have no feelings about Camilla one way or the other, but it did seem strange seeing her get crowned.

Loved the gospel group - their harmonies were so beautiful!

Did anyone else notice that the recessional music (Elgar) was the same recessional music from Charles’ wedding to Diana?

I was talking to dh about Camilla this morning. Obviously, this isn’t all on her, but I still can’t get past my dislike of her. Charles could’ve stood up to the antiquated monarchy and not agreed to marry a Diana, but he’s a victim of his circumstances, too. But even if they were in a loveless marriage, that doesn’t mean that he should’ve carried on with Camilla as they did. I don’t like any of them at this point.

I told him that I have done a 180 on the royal family so quickly. I woke up to watch Kate and William get married. Did not care a whit about this coronation. When I woke up I turned on the TV and saw the balcony shot. I figure that because I’m a loyal news watcher I’ll get plenty of coverage in the next couple of days.

I think I’m okay with Camilla because she seems suited to Charles. Charles and Diana were never a good match. Diana died very young and she is almost frozen in time, particularly for Harry. Had she lived a longer life, I think she would have also found a better match. As Charles did.

I watched Diana’s and Kate’s wedding. But after Spare, which I believe, I’m not much a fan of W/K anymore. Now, non of them really peak my interest.

I look forward to getting the details from all of you. I haven’t been following in the news but am interested in the CC gossip. LOL

Despite both being non-working royals and having no role in the ceremony, I found it interesting that Andrew wore ceremonial robes, while Harry did not.

I didn’t watch at all. Haven’t even seen a photo yet. All I can think after reading Spare - and I believe enough of it - that Harry will be having one big sigh of relief when he plops in his seat on the plane to come back to MEGHAN and family far away from London.
