When I was a freshman, my grade traveled to Phuket, Thailand on a field strip.
While we were there, we built schools for orphans and gave them gifts as well as played with them.
In return, I received a official certificate from my school which acknowledged and awarded me for my participation.
Would I be able to put this down as an honor on the common app? Thanks!
Service trips to far-off locations will reek of privilege, whether accurate or not. I’d omit the certificate, if I were you.

Helping orphaned children? Good thing!! However, when there are orphaned children the next county over from where you live who also need help, one will question the need to go to Phuket.
