Does your school have a Honor Council?

And if so, do you like there being one? What powers do they hold?

If not, do you want your school to have one?

Well, my school does. I happen to be on it. However, when I joined (freshman year), it was nothing more than a group to ‘promote honor around the school’.

However, my sophomore year, it changed to being a group that actually recommends punishments for when people break the honor code. [Though they don’t use the word ‘punishment’.]

We have done everything from give warnings to recommend expulsion. And the thing is… I don’t know if I like having that much power. If I wasn’t on it… I don’t know if I would like for my ‘fate’ to be determined by my peers. But at the same time… I feel like students understand the difficulties more than faculty, so we might actually have better suggestions. I don’t know.

What do you think?

My school has one, and I did want to be on it freshman year, but I don’t really as an upcoming sophomore.

Only 2 freshman get it, 3 sophomores, 4 juniors, and 5 seniors. It’s pretty exclusive for the freshman, and is voted on by peers at my school. (so as a new student at a k-12 school… these people had each other as friends for years).

Yeah, the Honor Council promotes honor and stuff, as well as choosing punishments.

I think it’s a good idea, unless if you’re on bad terms with someone on it… then it could get bad. But it generally is a good idea.

What’s an Honor Council?

^Basically, a council which votes on how to punish students on certain matters. Sometimes it exists, other times it doesn’t.

Nonexistent in my school.
