Does your transcript say what campus you went to?

Just asking to see if med schools will know that I went to a branch campus for a year.

90 % of med school admissions is MCAT and GPA. School makes little difference in general. The only issue I can see is if main campus has more demanding bio/org classes and better prepares kids for MCATs.

It will not show up on your transcript whatsoever. I had a similar concern

Transcripts show details of each semester including campus attended. It’s not like classes are any easier at a branch. Clac./ Chem/QBA/Bio are the same at any campus. You may have a smaller prof./student ratio, thus have an easier time getting to your prof for help. There are less distractions because your not in State College. At UP you have to be able to manage study time better, b/c there is so much more to do. I know M.D.'s that attended branch campuses and made Ivy League Med schools…and graduated : )

Which one of you is right ? I was told that branch campuses are easier compared to main.

I have asked this exact question at a campus tour at a branch campus. They said it does not show up on your transcript whatsoever

It just says penn state right?

Yes, that is all it says.

Another issue is that med schools like to see some medical related volunteering. Many people go with EMT/Ambulance. That may be easier in your home town, rather than in state college where there are many other students.

You should also ask if the branch college will have any opportunities to assist profs with research.

ummm…My transcript shows the branch campus I attended. Also, in the Penn State alum directory it also shows that I attended a branch campus. Unless things have changed since I graduated it will show…
Taking the word of a tour guide isnt the greatest thing to do.

I also went to a branch and finished at UP and my transcript does not show a branch, nor does the alumni directory. This was when dinosaurs roamed the earth.

If I recall correctly, the speaker at accepted students day (at UP) when asked this question responded that everything says Penn State with no mention of the branch. This was in 2010.

Who’s right !!!?? Oh and can anyone else say that GENERALLY a branch campus is easier compared to UP ?

Okay. I would say that this is something new(LMAO)but as of TODAY, IN THE ACADEMIC SECTION, it does show in the Alum directory if you attended a branch campus! I graduated in 93. Call it prehistoric if you please/who cares. The one contradicting me sounds fake. To the liar…IF you actually do have access to the alum directory look up Michael Austin 92, Jennifer Santos 95, Jennifer Ok 94, Neil Jain 93, Robert Darrisaw95, Keith Schwind 93, Nicole Warfield 95 Anita Puran 93…and I can go on and on. They all show a Branch campus on their profiles. U obviously dont know what you are talking about! Your transcript HAS TO show what campus you attended for each semester. That other person does not know what they are talking about! Like I said classes are not easier at a branch. You have less distractions and smaller prof/student ratio so that might make it easier. Its not like you are going to get a watered down version of Biology 101/Micro-Macro Econ or Math 110 at a branch! You should call up the alumni office and confirm that information! If I tell you one thing then another person is on here totally making me look wrong you will only get confusion. Kill the confusion! Call PSU and they will clear everything up for you.

Sigh. Reminder to self: stick to pm’s and use the block feature.

Exactly who are you calling a liar/fake? If that is directed at me, I can assure you that I am quite real. I am not a current or former Penn state student. I have been on tours at both the Erie and Altoona campuses and have asked this exact question at both, as it was a major concern of mine . Both tour guides have said that it does not show up on transcripts. I realize these are student tour guides, but that does not mean that they are completely inept. I am just relaying what I have learned, take it for what you will. I may be wrong, I don’t know for sure.

I am calling slipjig liar.
If it was said at a branch campus then that person was incorrect. It can be an innocent mistake.
But slipjig, who all of a sudden went to a branch campus and has access to the alumni directory, is totally wrong!

I can confirm the campus location is included for each semester on the transcript. The diploma on the other hand only says The Pennsylvania State University.

Case closed…lmao

<<case closed…lmao="">></case>

You can laugh, but your attitude and comments were rude and disrespectful. Yeah, slipjig could have done without the dinosaur comment (speaking as someone who went to school with T-Rex), but calling someone a liar is far beyond that.

I have no idea who is right or wrong, but I do know that slipjig has been a very valuable poster to this forum for quite a while.

I was looking at my major’s newsletter/booklet and it does not indicate whether someone went to a branch or not. I stand corrected. My apologies. As for the transcript, I can’t find mine, and I recall incorrectly, apparently. My apologies again.

And I was referrring to myself as a dinosaur, class of 1980. I don’t know why that is a problem.

I don’t know what has happened to this forum. There are many new posters whose only intent has been to come on and be nasty and confrontational. I dont see how that helps any of us.
