Don't Talk to the Cops?

Personally, I will gladly endure a few moments of inconvenience being detained if it helps put an end to human trafficking or other horrific crimes. Not everyone agrees.

Definitely not everyone.

Giving up rights will never end. They take a little here or there and then one day you wake up and the police and government can do whatever they want.

Yes, Alex Jones and his insistence that the young children who were gunned down at Sandy Hook were “actors hired by the government” are surely correct- give up the right to have psychotic young men own as many fire arms as they can afford and god, what will happen next?

There should be better education about the universal hand gesture to indicate that help is needed. No concern about being too afraid to give a name.

I feel like there are a few assumptions here.

Thank you for posting this. I’ve seen these signs in the restrooms of various few bars and restaurants-- and a notice that their waitstaff have been trained to recognize the gesture.

And in addition to needed education about that universal “need help” hand gesture, education is needed about all the 3 digit phone #s and who/what they access

(That’s from Google fiber’s site so ignore the yes/no column)

Interesting that you assume I would not want gun control. I am totally for stricter gun laws. I think you should have register your guns and pay a fee every year like you do for a car. I would love for types of guns to be outlawed.

But see cops are a corrupt organization. The good ones back the bad ones.

So you don’t want someone that has never been arrested. Probably gotten 2 speeding tickets in my whole life. Raised two children who did extremely well in HS. Well enough to get major scholarships. Have one graduate with two majors and a minor who wants to be a teacher. Been married to the same woman for 28 years. Gainfully employed for 30 years. Household income in the top quintile in the US. Pays my taxes. And keeps a neat and tidy lawn. Not bad at golf either.

All because I don’t trust cops. Even though I don’t trust them I still don’t break the law because that is wrong and my mother raised me right.

No, the good cops work with OTHER law enforcement agencies (especially the FBI if the offenses are federal and can be prosecuted under Public Corruption statutes in addition to whatever else is present- stealing evidence, drugs, bringing guns into a prison, human trafficking, etc).

Corrupt cops back other corrupt cops. The good cops- at great personal peril- have testified against their colleagues (sometimes wearing a hood/voice altering technology), or are currently in Witness Protection due to their testimony or just giving the tips which led to the investigation in the first place.

I do not doubt you are a law-abiding citizen.

Personally, I wish to be in an actual community where people act upon a sense of duty to each other and to society at large, even when there is no legal obligation to do so. I just like it better that way, but YMMV.

It’s tough to square this circle, but I don’t want to derail a thread about police interactions.

This is a sad statement, but in an environment where all Republicans are bad, all independents are really Republicans laying in wait and all Democrats are socialists, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised by anything.

I do wish people would talk about the common good rather than touting their individual rights, but I suppose that is unrealistic now.

Do you really deny that many LEO’s are reluctant to take a stand (or the stand) against other LEO’s who cut corners? Seems an untenable position.

People are fine with Alexa recording their conversations, being tracked by their phones and their EZ-Pass, and being recorded by cameras everywhere they go…but they can’t provide their name to a law enforcement officer if asked. If you have nothing to hide, you have no reason not to give law enforcement your name.

Just one person’s opinion.

I’d go even further-- people will give their email and home address and date of birth to get a 10% off coupon at a discount retailer (without wondering how that information will get used) and somehow a local cop is the problem?

Are you alleging “cutting corners” now? Your earlier posts implied something MUCH more dangerous, nefarious, evil than cutting a corner.

And then they are surprised by the communities they live in, when it is all so predictable.
