Don't you guys feel lonely?

I mean as international students in the US. I feel lonely sometimes… I think it’s inevitable for international students especially for those who don’t like to drink or party :(

Of course. I think it’s worst at the beginning but slowly gets less and less with time. It’s normal.

If you’re at a college where you’re a massive minority, I’m sure you’ll feel extremely lonely.

but you eventually get used to the crowd. Or hang out with other int’ls. it all works out eventually…

it’s extremely common to feel lonely for the first few months. you have to work at it, put yourself into social life’s way, hold on to the friends you do make, not get discouraged by setbacks. it will get easier and easier as you get more used to american social norms. remember, the first months at a new place are hard for everybody!

not if you love to drink and party!

you will fit in much more quickly if you are white. if you are a person of color then some people (especially white ones) won’t even talk to you because the states had a long history of racial discrimination.

While there certainly is some ‘racism’ (however you want to define that term) left from the old days, I yet have to meet someone who refuses to talk to anyone who’s not white.

It is quite predictable that you will feel yourself lonely in new country, in new environment and so on so forth(even if you like to drink and parties). But it is just a matter of time.

I’m international, and I dont get lonely, i just miss my family. Many people have the opportunity to go back home for breaks but I cant go until winter break… It’s not even easy calling home… You gotta punch in the ph card number, pin, blah blah. You can say it only takes like 20sec, but that really is annoying when you’re trying to call…
I dont hang out with any other intels… actually i hang out with internationals from korea (im korean) but mostly american citizen peers. And i ahvent faced any discrimination for being international from others… But i really miss my family <3
