Dorming/Gym questions regarding UB?

So I recently found out that I’m going to be in the Red Jacket building that houses transfer students and upperclassmen. This is my first time living in a dorm, I was put in a triple since I applied a bit late. I was wondering what the bathroom/shower situations were? My friend who used to go to UB told me that I would have to share the bathroom and showers with everyone in the hall, and that they were all in the layout of public bathrooms/showers with little privacy. The types with stalls and urinals. Is this true? How many people typically use the same bathrooms/showers?

Also, I was told there are two gyms in North Campus, one small gym and one main gym, how far are there from the Red Jacket building, along with classes? My UB friend told me it was about a 20-25 minute walk to the gym/classes.

Thanks.

Looking around the college confidential forums I also see something about showing proof of insurance? Where would I show such proof? I’ve been told that I need to pay UB for their insurance if I do not provide my own.

Is there anything else that I am missing? So far I have only applied to UB, accepted, and paid my housing/tuition deposit.

The University process is very new to my family and I.

I lived in red jacket 2 years ago. It depends on how many guys are on your floor, but I was sharing it with about 20 other guys and it wasn’t a problem. It’s kind of like a public bathroom, but they have 2 toilets (no urinals) 2 sinks and 2 showers. It’s definitely private enough that you won’t feel awkward so don’t worry about that.

JeffUB, look at this thread for info about the health insurance: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/suny-buffalo/1359564-what-medical-insurance-does-ub-accept.html

You will get your bill for the Fall on the 23rd which will be emailed to your @buffalo email and you can look at your hub for info to pay it.

what was your gpa when you got on if you don’t mind me asking? I’m trying to transfer to UB from Cortland this spring semester but my GPA isnt the best. It like barely makes the minimum requirement.

At the time of my application my GPA was about 2.89 or so, and that is what they accepted me with. It is 3.11 now, Stony Brook even accepted me, but I chose UB instead. I have no SAT or ACT scores as well.
