any suggestions out there?

I graduated years ago from SU… but for Freshmen I would say stay off “Mount Olympus”… I think the dorms up there are called Flint and Day… they are about as far from the Theatre Department as you can get…

Brewster- Boland is close to the drama dept… but the neighborhood used to be a little scetchy… I lived in Sadler as a Freshman, and I had friends that lived in Lawrinson… these dorms were both convenient to the drama dept.

Kimmel, Marion, and Haven were all nice dorms when I was at SU… Haven used to be all women but I think I heard that it is now co-ed… but I think that these dorms are primarily for upper classmen.

Again, I would do anything I could to stay out of Flint and Day!

Thanks so much. My d doesn’t want to be in party dorm, nor far away from Drama dept.

LocoMom - my son is a sophomore and now lives in Watson Hall, in a “drama community” suite (like 10 to 15 drama students on one floor close together), but the first year he had no choice and was at Brewster-Boland. His first room was a nightmare - they had overbooked and he was in a “triple” with 4 other kids - the first night, the others were drinking and got in BIG trouble! NOT saying this to scare you - by October he had transferred to a split double where he had plenty of space and a nice roommate - the housing people were extremely nice and helpful. So, bottom line, even if your d has a bad first room assignment, if you talk to them they will definitely work to help you move quickly. Next year he’ll be in London for the fall and then at Marathon, which is the drama house - sort of like a fraternity/sorority thing.
There IS no dorm really near Syracuse Stage, but KatMT is right about Flint and Day being the farthest away.

Booth is far away, that is where I was freshman year. Locomom I sent you a PM which basically covers what everybody above said.

hey ill be acting '11… is it good to ask to dorm with a theatre major i was thinking so because of scheduals and such but any suggestions? do freshman even get a say in which dorm they are in?

grmom – your son may or may not know that the Marathon house has been in the SU drama “family” since at least the late 80s/ early 90s… pretty cool bit of tradition…

i like the lawrinson dorms for convenience to the drama facility and overall niceness combined. NO, they are not the nicest dorms but they are the nicest convenient dorms. Boland/Brockway/Brewster is an awesome dorm. I got to view it when i auditioned. It’s a little removed from the campus but still pretty. There are practice rooms in the basement!!

Yes, I believe my son does know the history of Marathon - he was very excited at the freshman picnic when he was chosen by the “bigs” at Marathon, which meant he had the option of living there as a junior/senior.

of gosh… it had gotten much more “serious” since I was a student there Glad that the tradition has continued!

My daughter was just assigned to a split double in Haven Hall. Does anyone have current information about this dorm? From the map, it appears to be walking distance to Syracuse Stage (not at night). We’ve heard that the food is bad, but don’t have much more information…Thanks!

Funny how things change… when I was at SU, HAven had some of the best food on campus!

As far as walking distance to Syracuse Stage… it is, but in the winter, nothing short of living across the street will feel like walking distance. There is a pretty good bus system though!

My d is assigned to Shaw.

i was just assigned to lawrinson…now that’s a walk…but who cares…i guess it’s all worth it. i 'll loose weight while i’m at it.

My daughter is now in a split double at Haven. She’s very happy. Not to menton Syracuse is a wonderful place.
