Right, the couch with a RETAIL or AUCTION value of $10k will net the seller $6000 to $7500 (generously), after fees and commissions. Add in estate agent fees and it is even less. My butt would sit on a $6000 couch (though it prefers a $3500 one).
My son will let them know…but these folks aren’t dying soon. Plus…to get the couch out of the house…someone is going to have to move all of the other junque that is in the way OUT. It’s a mess.
@intparent STUFFED OWLS? As in taxidermy or toys. Just wondered — our Good Will would not take stuffed animal toys or “stuffed animals”.
(we had experience in both being turned down!)
Toys.
That does not cover the dozens of little stone or glass or whatever owl statues, too – she kept them, took most to school. And Christmas ornaments, don’t forget those. Our Goodwill does take stuffed animal toys – we donated some “non-owls” that were not deemed nearly as precious as the original collection. The giveaway was in jeopardy at one point… D2 told her college BF that she was “re-homing” some of her owls (I used the word “culling” at one point and you should have seen the look she gave me…), and he gave her a guilt trip – “Won’t they wonder where you are and why you aren’t coming to get them? They will think you don’t love them!” Could of killed the little snot… She called and asked me to retrieve a few specific ones from the bags to keep after all (which I readily did). The remainder of the collection (“their best essence”, as we refer to it) lives in a wicker basket here in our new apartment in her room.
I guess it depends on the Goodwill.(“sorry we are no longer taking them”) We had baskets full of relatively new stuffed animals from D. We cleaned them and gave them to a local church instead. They take them to a mission hospital south of the border. And forget about the mangy stuffed (real)pheasant.
Sometimes schools have a display shelf for trophies you don’t want around…
Trophies as in little metal figures on pedestals or “stuffed” animal trophies (like musica’s pheasant)?
It must depend on the school.
Gave a load of Beanie Babies to my local Pediatric Hospital Transport Team - they give a cuddly to each child they transport.
@musicamusica – Does your pheasant look like this? (Image 5 of 34 on this page, have to click to blow it up).
If so, I’ll take it! (Fabulous white pheasant with long, long tail from Deyrolle in Paris.) Somehow I doubt it!
I think that’s a white peacock.
That bug collection in the next photo gives me the heebie jeebies. (shudder)
Lol, I stand corrected. Musica, if you are trying to offload any stuffed white peacocks, let us know!
woah! @nottelling I know that store in Paris and was reminded of it when we were trying to unload that pheasant. We sold it for $50 on Craiglist! Apparently there is a vast pool of bearded hipsters here in LA who crave taxidermy.
My parents had a gorgeous house and the buyer wrote into the offer that she wanted much of the furniture, all the Roman shades with coordinating duvets, etc. We were like, sure! (My parents died within three months of each other.) There was still a ton of stuff to get out of the house. My mother had a propensity for little collections; the mantel in one bedroom, for example, housed a collection of little log cabins, another featured miniature willow chairs. We spent about 15 minutes thinking about putting the stuff on Ebay and then started hauling it to the dump. There is a little shed at the dump that my father always called The Opportunity Room where you can put stuff you think someone else might like. By about our third trip to the Opportunity Room people were waiting for us to arrive, offering to help us unload. Nice to see that people liked some of her collections.
Yeah, I know. Count my ex-husband among them. Although he is more properly referred to as guru to bearded hipsters. =P~
This thread inspires me to be more organized and clutter free.
One of my happy days was when my sons bought houses and I took them their mounted deer heads. Getting rid of 5 big bucks frees up a lot of wall space
So I got rid of some trophy bucks, but I still have more than 100 of their 4-H trophies. I did lug them into our attic that is accessed with a ladder. I will not be the one carting them out…

This was one of our stressor things moving parents out last year. That damn 12 point buck hanging in the garage I was soooo glad to have it move out
For the 4 h trophies…do,what I did…peel the brass plaque off. Get a picture frame and some card stock…and put the plaques in the frame. For 100, you will need a couple or more frames…but that sure beats 100 trophies!
^or just take pictures of them. That’s what I’ve done with my sons’ trophies.
