Mom0f3 - - I was really bothered with the accents in the first episode, but now I’m simply quite accustomed to them. I didn’t even notice Cora was an American until I looked her up on Wikipedia!

I’m currently reading The World of Downton Abbey, and it’s actually a really informative series guide! I always sort of expected those things to be more of a revenue-generator than a real book, but it’s been a good read. Plus the high-res photos are simply gorgeous!
I can’t wait for the next episode of S2 to come out Sunday, even though Season 2 is somewhat less exciting than Season 1.

I thought it was a much more exciting episode than last week. I sense Mary really doesn’t want to marry Sir Richard but now her fate is sealed. Wouldn’t surprise me if Matthew does recover. And I could throttle O’brien and Thomas, those two are like bumbling idiots!

Really felt for Daisy. What an awful position to be put in and was sad to see William killed off…I quite liked him.

I like Lady Violet more and more every episode. She’s very kind-hearted underneath it all. My favorite line last night was when she said (about the doctor), “when you give the little people power, it goes straight to their heads like a strong drink.”

Yes much better episode last night. Actually felt for a little bit like Mary and Sir Richard might make a good team.

The previews for next week make it look exciting. Mary and Matthew are alone now, and he won’t be dashing off to war again in a few hours, there is all the time in the world to talk. Sir Richard might be more than Mary bargained for.

I agree about Lady Violet. Once you are on her good side, she will move heaven and earth to help you, but woe to those who cross her! Maggie Smith is marvelous in this role.

Or, the wheelchair guy could be an impostor Patrick. Having gleaned all my knowledge about British stately homes from P.G. Wodehouse, I’ve wondered why no impostor has shown up yet. “Blandings had impostors the way other houses have mice.”

Sorry about the Naomi reference. I was getting silly there with soap operas because Downton is getting so soapy. Naomi comes from the classic Electric Company “soap opera,”, Love of Chair. It has nothing at all to do with Downton. Actually, it had nothing at all to do with Love of Chair either, but the voiceover always asked “And… what about Naomi?” at the end of every episode.

Just into my facebook news feed - Shirley MacLaine has signed to play Cora’s mother in Season 3. Just think - Shirley MacLaine vs. Maggie Smith. So delicious!

If you think Downton Abby is bad, you should try “All Creatures Great and Small” - the accents of some of those Yorkshire farmers make their speech incredibly hard, if not impossible, to decipher.
As veterans of “All Creatures”, hubby and I just about died laughing when we saw that SNL video last year!!
