Downton Abbey

O’Brien killing Vera would be brilliant.

I just ordered season 2 from Amazon for $20. It says it is the unedited UK version. I figured it was worth $20 to see the last three episodes now, plus I think H and D will get hooked eventually.

OK… am not going to read this whole thread, but D1 talked me into watching this series (basically told me I had to, that it’s the best). So last night I went on a search, looking for Season 1 in a store, and could not find it. Basically I tried the two closest Best Buys and Super Targets. I also tried our local video rental place and they don’t carry it.

Are my only options, really, to buy it online and have it shipped? Are there no real stores that carry a good selection of DVDs to purchase anymore?

Netflix has season 1 for streaming- so does Amazon ( free for prime customers)

I watched season one for free online, could have been on pbs.com

Well, because I am a PBS donor, I was able to purchase both seasons 1 & 2, with my membership discount, and free shipping, for $29.74.

I was able to pick up season 2 at Costco for $23.99, but I’m either going to return it or send it to D2.

I watched the whole season 2 online for free. UK version.

I just read that Shirley Maclaine will be the “other” grandmother–Season 3 That should be fun!!

@cbreeze…where did you watch season 2? All the links I find want me to download something that I’ve never heard of. I have a brand new computer with all my work on it, if I download a virus I’m screwed.

cbreeze,

I don’t want to know everything, but so as not to spoil it for anyone here, please PM me who killed Vera.

I don’t believe it is revealed who killed Vera by the end of season 2, including the Christmas special. Stay tuned for season 3…

gloworm, bookiemom is correct, we don’t know who killed Vera in season 2. Stay tuned for season 3.
I want to see a wedding in season 3, otherwise I am going to quit watching.

Thanks,

So there only two episodes left for season 2?

Kathiep- those are only the already broadcast episodes. Cbreeze said she already watched all if season 2 online.

I watched Letterman last night for the Foo Fighters Top Ten, and the actress from Downton Abbey was on. Catherine Dockery, I believe? She was delightful. I called my FIL this morning to make sure he knew of this series, and he has indeed been following it. He was a big fan of the old Upstairs Downstairs, so I knew this would be right up his alley. I will have to check it out. Sounds like a great series.

I must say that I don’t think the writing is as good this season as last. I’ve heard lines recycled from other movies.

From Dr. Zhivago “They’ve killed the tsar and all his family”.

From Gone with the Wind, “I’ve never known you to have a handkerchief in times of crisis”.

And then there’s the well worn, ‘drop the tea cup’ ‘I just got a cold chill’ moment coinciding with Matthew’s injury in France.

It’s getting so I can predict what a character is about to say.

But I love it nonetheless.

Article about Michelle Dockery with link to Letterman appearance:

I’m hoping that pale skin comes back into fashion, thanks to her. She’s lovely, in or out of costume.

^She is attractive, but she always looks slightly cross-eyed to me.

Thanks for the link. It is rather startling to see her in modern dress lol. I don’t know why they called her beautiful tailored jacket “androgynous.” To catch people’s eyes, I guess. She is very slender, isn’t she?
