The Greene story line – I bet we’ll never know who pushed him, but I don’t think it matters. It was a woman according to the witness, and the detective said Greene was known to have raped a number of women – he was a serial rapist. So I think they are implying that one of his many prior victims did it. Which one? Doesn’t matter. One of them got revenge for all of them.
I think it’'s weird for Rose to start her marriage off knowing her husband has a half brother, but poor husband doesn’t know! And she’s going to keep this from him to keep Lord Sinderby happy? BS. She needs to tell Atticus.
Regarding Atticus’s half-brother: I can well imagine some sort of heir problem down the line – Atticus dies and so won’t inherit something, but Rose pulls the half-brother out of her bag of tricks, so the family is shamed by his existence but somehow whatever needs to be inherited to keep it away from the tax man becomes Little Daniel’s.
(Did you notice that his name was Daniel, and Rachel (Lady Sinderby) said to him, “Oh, what a coincidence; that’s Lord Sinderby’s name as well!”)
Rose is used to managing unhappy/estranged couples - she’s an old pro by now. I can’t imagine her doing anything to throw a wrench into the works as she seems like she wants sunshine and roses (at least on the surface).
Good point. I would have thought this is something you do NOT keep from your spouse but Rose may be savvier than that because of her experience with her unhappy parents.
I would still tell him. And I’d tell the old man first that I was planning on telling him so he could be there too.
@cardinal Fang I thought the same thing, too, but don’t think she is intended to be. But really…they couldn’t have got another child with more personality?
Will someone please explain to me Mary’s new love interest? Who is he and when did he pop into the show? How did I miss this?
Loved Tom, Mary and Edith paying remembering Sybil and how Edith grabbed Mary’s hand. The look on Mary’s face!
I’m so glad about Mr. Carson/ Mrs. Hughes. I think alot of us saw this coming with last season’s finale…at least I did. it was my favorite part of the show!
I really enjoyed Violet telling her about her saucy past, and read this morning that she has said that next season is her last. If that is the case, I do hope it is the final season of the show. Just can’t imagine watching Downton without her.
Oh…now another long 10 month wait. Mad Men and Outlander can’t get here fast enough. Wish they were March premieres instead of April.
Really? There were subtle hints all through last season and certainly in last season’s finale, it was quite obvious in the final scene on the beach. This season has brought them even closer, often sharing food and drinks in private, personal chats, and the decision to look for a house together.
Paper reported this morning on an interview with Maggie Smith. She’s hinting that she may do just one season more saying that 'her character must be 100 by now".
I am a little grumpy that Lord Grantham has suddenly become a Sensitive New Age Male, with all that emotional openness, self awareness, uxoriousness, and refusal to judge others.
I do think we’ve heard the end of the Mr. Greene saga, though. Mary had some gratuitous line about how the witness who identified Anna is no longer so sure.
I was multitasking, and got a little confused between Edith’s and Mary’s potential love interests. I thought Mr. Tall Dark and Handsome with whom Mary was flirting was the agent. If not, who is he?
Tall dark and handsome is Atticus’ third cousin I think. Edith’s love interest is his agent. Or something like that.
Mary: And if you’re in Yorkshire just stop by. TDH: I can manage that. They would make a very handsome couple.
Loved when Diane Clarke shows up and Rose saved the day. Especially when she looks at Mary smiling and says “Help me!” Mary didn’t miss a beat. Boy, they are fast thinkers!
Marigold could be played by a rag doll. Where is the kid she used to visit on the farm?
I thought that it was the agent of the estate lord S was renting and either a neighbor or friend of the agent. I thought people were put out that they had to entertain people they didn’t know and the underlying comment was that they were taking advantage oh Lord S’s Jewishness.
They went to pretty great pains to tell us that the Estate Agent is related to a Lord of the Manor. Who knows…was Matthew Crawley a closer relation when he became the heir?
I predict that next season will be the last and that Violet will pass away, but not until near the end of the series. I figured they wouldn’t kill off Lord Grantham with a heart attack because then would Cora have to move into the dower house with her MIL? I think that Mary and Edith will both marry those guys they met at the castle.
They may have gone to great pains to inform us but they failed, as so many of us missed it! I still don’t know who the Estate Agent is…Edith’s or Mary’s guy? If it’s Edith’s, then who is Mary’s guy an vice versa!
VeryHappy–Of course he showed interest in Mary! He said he had an aunt he could conveniently visit! And she admired the car. How much more do you want?
