Downton Abbey

At the beginning of last evening’s episode, a man was riding a bike. Did any one else think that the man looked like Alastair Bruce, Downton Abbey historian? Apparently, Bruce has had cameo appearances in previous seasons.

Wow! Why all the hate for Edith? Yes, she made the Pamuk thing public in Season1, but when someone constantly treats you like crap, it’s only natural to want some of your own back. Mary sabotaged Edith’s possible engagement to Anthony Strallin in the last episode of Season 1. And Edith has been through the wringer. Even in widowhood, Mary has landed on her feet. And I think Edith may be coming into her own. She’s getting her head around the fact that she is a woman of independent means (unlike Mary, whose money actually belongs to George), and that she has choices - good ones. And it shows. She’s standing up to Mary more and giving as good as she gets. Hopefully we’ll see a final showdown between the two of them before the season is over.

Actually, rather than a showdown, I’d prefer to see a reconciliation. After all, once Robert and Cora are gone, they’ll only have each other.

My prediction is that Mrs. Hughes will win, but then will acquiesce and have it at Downton.

What if the compromise is a lovely wedding in the town somewhere, and the reception at Downton? That way, she wouldn’t feel people are expecting her to be ‘working’ (I don’t think they think she’d be working, but as long as she’s at the house, I think she has a hard time of not performing her role) at Downton during the ceremony because she would be off premises. She would just show up for the reception and really be able to concentrate on the ceremony and her vows.

I’d rather Elsie has her wedding off site and have the Lord and Lady have to visit the school or whatever and dance a jig, have a beer.

If the wedding is upstairs, the downstairs invitees will have to do the work, at the bidding of their bosses.

I liked how Cora and Robert acted as grandparents while still keeping Edith’s secret from Mary. Not sure how long that’s going to last, but they are trying to respect Edith’s wishes. I want Edith to fire that editor and get more involved with the publication.

On a separate note, I have really come to like Aunt Rosamunde. I like Samantha Bond who plays that character in Home Fires as well and look forward to that series coming back later this year.

The actress who plays Aunt Rosamund was Miss Moneypenny in GoldenEye and Die Another Day with Pierce Brosnan as James Bond.

Am I the only one who thinks Rosamund is Edith’s bio mother? Am I the only one who thinks Molesley and Baxter are sweet on each other?

VaBluebird, I think you brought up Rosamund being Edith’s bio mother before, and I’m coming around to your point of view.

Can anyone explain to me the issue about Mary taking Marigold to the Drewes’? Mary doesn’t know that Edith is Marigold’s biomom, but doesn’t she know that Mrs. Drewes loved Marigold and didn’t want to give her up? Wouldn’t that be enough to know that bringing Marigold to see the pigs might be a sad idea?

Yes to both.

VaBluebird----there is at the very least a nice friendship between Molesley and Baxter. W and I are both hoping those two become a couple. Molesley has had so much bad luck over the 6 seasons, he’s due for something nice to happen to him.

So this is the first year I have not read spoilers on Wikipedia. However, I know some of the story lines do not end as we would like them, rather, they end in sadness (generic media reports have said this, as well as interviews with Julian Fellowes). So I’m just trying to figure out here which story lines with major characters have the opportunity to go south, and so far I can’t really see any. It’s early, yes, and some of the story lines have time to take a different direction, but I just can’t see any. I do suspect Anna and Bates will end well, and even Mosely and Baxter might end up together. I almost wonder if they’re trying to get us to like Thomas so much this season, that it might be we begin to like him and something really bad happens.

oh no no no, I do hope they don’t have Isobel die. That would be awfully sad.

I consider that possibility pretty obvious; but I think they’d have to do it with at least a couple or three episodes left so they can mourn/pay respects properly. But yea, I consider that one a definite possibility.

Isabel is too young to die. Violet, OTOH, is getting on in years. My money’s on Violet.

Oh dear… I read through that post too quickly and assumed it said Violet, and not Isobel. Yes, I agree - Violet might be gone before the series is over. Actually now that I’ve thought about it, they could wait until the final episode or two, then put closure on the event during the Christmas Special.

How about Robert? He was completely whacked, once again, after the hunt. He dies and Cora sails back to America and hooks up with Tom Branson because they always secretly had the hots for one another. She gets to be Sybbies mom all over again.

Then, of course, Mary comes between Carson and Mrs. Hughes and the wedding never happens. Mary, missing her father, believes it is for the best if Carson gives the rest of his life to her service and sees nothing wrong with that. Carson doesn’t argue and he and Mary, who never does find the right man, live the rest of their lives together . Carson keeps her on a pedestal and gives his life to making her still feel wealthy even though she hasn’t a farthing to her name. Edith, becomes filthy rich with her paper and throws it in Mary’s face every chance she gets.

Mrs Hughes and Mrs. Patmore then end up living together and well, you know, consoling and comforting one another.

Andy and Daisy end up together which makes Thomas so distraught he has a breakdown. He is last seen running around the house setting all the clocks. He is later found dead, crushed under the weight of a gigantic grandfathers clock, with tears in his eyes and that smirk finally gone from his face.

Oh yeah, I’ve got it all figured out.

;))

WONDERFUL!
