Hope everyone is getting excited about Downton Abbey tonight!
I just agreed to go out to dinner tonight but only if I can be home for Downton. I think I will be suffering from DAWS… Downton Abbey Withdrawal Syndrome tomorrow.
How soon can the episode be viewed online after it airs? DH went to Atlanta on business. He says I can watch it tonight if I find out how he can watch it online. He’ll probably be busy with conference stuff at 9pm. (I probably won’t be able to resist watching it tonight in any case.)
I’ve been able to watch it online the next morning on the local PBS station. I’ve tried a few times around midnight but it wasn’t available until some time between then and say 9 am on Monday.
We had our Downton Abby viewing party last night.
Best food: sticky toffee pudding. Awesome homemade deliciousness.
Lots of finger sandwiches and some scones with clotted cream. I made meat pies using frozen pie crust dough and chopped sirloin, onions and mushrooms.
Everyone wore an appropriate hat and we drank lots of tea.
H stopped at the liquor store and bought me two bottles of “Royal B@$&tch” wine to bring to honor team Mary and team Edith.
We all loved the wrap up. Sad its over.
i’m feeling anxious about watching it soon. Have been so tempted to read other forums, but am afraid for spoilers. Will follow along with twitter while watching as that’s always fun.
@sax – how’d you make sticky toffee pudding? the meat pies sound good too.
@Bgbg4us No idea. Sorry .My friend made it and it was truly scrumptious!
Enjoy the finale. It was filled with some great one liners.
So, when I was a student at a boarding school in England in the 60s, the people I knew pronounced “scone” skAHn." When they eventually became popular in the US, people pronounced it skOHn, something which I cannot bring myself to do because it feels weird.
I have been told that skAHn is a Scottish influenced pronunciation. An Englishwoman who worked in the county library told me that it was also a more posh pronunciation. I have no idea whether this is accurate.
ETA, just found this amusing link:

Apparently I should have been referring to cone and con above.
What can I say? All’s well that ends well! And I love, love, love Daisy’s hair!
I watched and I taped. So many lovely endings and predictable beginnings. Team Edith and Mary can both be happy. Why Anna had to deliver in Mary’s bed, but don’t know. Rose was a lovely go-to, getting Robert to believe in Cora. I loved how Maggie laughed when she learned the truth about Sprout’s column. And I liked how Barron’s gets to return to DA.
I don’t want this show to end!!!
^ I agree, bookworm. I especially enjoyed seeing Rose.
And so happy that Isobel and Dickie are together! Great story!
Perfection!
Here’s my question of the evening - did anyone else notice Bertie’s butler seemed to be a familiar face? If you watched the Manners of Downton Abbey show, I think it was the consulting historian of the show getting a little onscreen time, but I’m not 100% sure.
Yea, a lot of the story conclusions were sort of cliche, but there were enough twists and turns that it kept me totally engaged… and crying almost the entire last ten minutes.
LOVED the final touching dialogue between Carson and Lord Grantham.
And Lord Grantham being proud of his wife, Lady Cora!
Good ending! But did cry the last few minutes. I will miss this family!!
And they all lived happily ever after…
Loved the show! Great tied up storylines and hints of future possibilities (Branson).
Well, I guess Lady Rosamund wasn’t Edith’s bio mother after all.
Well, I’m satisfied but sad.
I’m pretty sure I’m going to make it a project to start it over from the beginning.
Fastest (and cleanest) birth ever.
I loved it – what a fairytale ending for everyone.
Some of you know that we recently moved; as part of that move, we got a new larger TV with 4G technology. Our previous TV was probably 7-8 years old. The difference between the two is astounding. Everything I’ve been watching on the new TV is so much more crisp and I notice detail I never noticed before, especially when watching shows like this. It really does make me want to go back and watch it from the beginning again so I can see it better. (although I’d obviously know all the story lines). But some of it might be new to me!
