Downton Abbey

The post-war Germany angle could be intriguing. Note Edith’s comment about the Royal family’s ties to Germany. Maybe the young and future/former King Edward will make an appearance. Also, IMHO no high society person in his or her right mind would have immigrated to Portugal in the Downtown Abbey era. Portugal was arguably heading to near-Third World status even then.

Beerme, I’m not great with remembering names, so I often consult Wikipedia or other sites to refresh my recollection before posting shows, characters, etc. But with Downton Abbey, we are justifiably afraid of spoilers. Early last (US) season I looked up something about Matthew and immediately saw “the late…”

Beerme, there may have been some misspellings, but I don’t think anyone didn’t know who Gregson or Molesley were. (and I myself appreciated the Rochester reference!)

crossposted with Missypie.

Yea, like I said, I wasn’t expecting it, so when I scrolled to the bottom, I thought it have information about the end of last season, which is what I was looking for. Only it was information about the current season. Luckily I only read a couple of sentences before I realized what it was and immediately scrolled back up higher.

Last year I found out about Sybil ahead of time. :(

ok, I get the message.
Done.

So have I.

Good decision.

I would be sad if it ended after series 5, personally.

Unless they come up with something better.

Thomas has turned on Anna because it’s in his nature. He can’t help himself. It’s clear that Fellowes has created Thomas as an all-purpose bad-guy, one who pursues evil for its own sake. No logical reason is needed. When a villain is required for the plot they can always count on Thomas.

O’Brien was a pain in my keister but one thing I liked about her was that her friendship with Thomas made him seem a little less pure evil, except for when they turned on each other I suppose!

I am surprised he can still walk around looking down his nose at people now that Mr. Carson knows his secret.

I do love this show. I was getting annoyed in the first hour at the way Mary, Robert and the Nanny were being played. Things did get better. (I though Robert was going to burn Matthew’s letter.)

But they are making Lady Crawley look like an idiot in the second hour when she rehires a maid without first speaking to Mrs.Hughes and believes Anna, a long time trusted ladies maid, is causing trouble, based on the word of a trouble maker, Thomas.

And why is Thomas above Mr. Bates? OMG, it resembles the real world!

::::::::swoon:::::: It’s back.

Spoiler alert:

Only look at this if you saw Season 4’s first episode. It’s the Facebook edition of last night’s show:

hysterical! Thanks!

Thanks for that, college_query! I really needed the laugh!!

Ah geez… that was hilarious! Had to post the link to my FB wall.

I really enjoyed that. I wonder who makes these?? They are wonderful!

Beyond being ridiculously funny, it also did a great job of emphasizing all the farfetched plot and character developments.

1920s Germany = infancy of the Nazi party. The Beer Hall Putch (sp?) was in the fall of 1923, IIRC. It could be very interesting indeed, especially as Hitler, in the very beginning, had the support of some very high society people, if only because they were so amused by him. And remember Unity Mitford, the English aristocrat who was close to Hitler?
