Dress people, MOB help???

If you are interested in the Pure Collection dress, today’s NY Times came with a brochure that offers 30% off everything plus free shipping and returns.

Ordered a bunch of dresses from Nordstrom. Another, smaller bunch from Boden.

Tomorrow will be another foray for The Groom Suit. The kid is working tons of hours and it is tricky to coordinate our schedules. Hope we don’t get crabby with each other.

Anxiously waiting for all those dress deliveries! Can’t wait to hear what fits & looks like contenders! :)

Where is everyone?? ;)

garland: you’re the OP! Wedding is coming up! Whaddya pick?

JEM, Countingdown, Merlin, anyone else I missed: Any dresses coming in the mail yet? :)

I am calling the dress choosing event Dressapalooza. lol

One dress has arrived from Nordstrom. It is a navy Adrianna Papell ruched sheath with sequins around the neck and on the sleeves. I cannot find it on the website, which seems a little weird, so I cannot post a link. It fits pretty well. The ruching is very forgiving.
It will be compared to about 15 other mail ordered dresses. I love the free return policy at Nordstrom. I hope I can keep the paperwork straight for all the returns. And I hope I can bear to part with all but one or two.

In the meantime, I scored a pair of loden Cole Haan chukkas at 70% off! I I hope I can find a dress as much as I like the shoes.

^^ "JEM, Countingdown, Merlin, anyone else I missed: Any dresses coming in the mail yet?

Yes, packages are showing up in dribs and drabs. I have tried on two so far and they remain in the running. I need the jackets though – the more coverage, the better.

A neighbor who dresses beautifully is coming over on Sunday to render an opinion. :)

My D will be visiting from Boston in early May and I will allow her to have input into the final decision. Will post here with results as I have them.

Thanks again – I would never have made this progress without this thread!!

I have gotten seven of the eight dresses. Returned three, ready to send back a fourth.

Here are my finalists:

 1. [Patra V-Neck Embellished Silk Chiffon Gown | Nordstrom](http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/patra-v-neck-embellished-silk-chiffon-gown/3316909?origin=category&contextualcategoryid=0&fashionColor=&resultback=6100)

2) [Alex Evenings Portrait-Collar Mesh Dress | Dillards.com](<a href=“Access Denied”>Access Denied)

3) [Adrianna Papell Matte Jersey & Taffeta Dress | Nordstrom](http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/adrianna-papell-matte-jersey-taffeta-dress/3070916?origin=keywordsearch&contextualcategoryid=2375500&fashionColor=ECLIPSE&resultback=4000)

4) [Adrianna Papell Chiffon Dress | Dillards.com](<a href=“Access Denied”>Access Denied)

Lessons learned:

 1. apple shape and straight line dresses do not mix. Fit and flare is much better.
 2. I have to alter most surplice bodices – they are way too low cut on me.
 3. I got two Adriana Papell dresses in a regular 16 – one fits perfectly, the other is very snug. AGH!
 4. 16W fits me in the waist but is too big on top.
 5. Shapewear may be required.

Got my rehearsal dress for $40!! Good thing I snagged it, because it’s now out of stock. Perfect to dress up or stay casual, depending on what we do about dinner that night. It may well be BBQ at the house.

I have been taking pics of myself in these confections. That in itself is a reality check!

CD, have you seen Trinny and Susanna’s body shape guide?

[Trinny and Susannah reveal 12 women’s body types - which are you? | Mail Online](<a href=“Trinny and Susannah reveal 12 women's body types - which are you? | Daily Mail Online”>Trinny and Susannah reveal 12 women's body types - which are you? | Daily Mail Online)

I like your Patra dress… At first I was concerned that sequins could be a bit on the heavy side and too shiny, but I know that sequins could look totally different IRL, and the reviewers do not see them as a problem.

late to this party but just a little to add:wore a plus sized variation of the Alex Evenings portrait color mesh dress to D’s wedding.I’m short and the tea length turned out to be gown length for me.also it was one with light mesh sleeves which the dressmaker used to make me a “modesty type” panel in the crossover vee…added a little coverup for cleavage…also made the sleeves a more appealing length…shorter but still covered top arm.Color was called “aubergine” which turned out well in the pictures, I wore dark silver sandals (maybe called gunmetal?) and silvertoned jewelry which I actually found on a bridal website. It was an agonizing dress search!!

BunsenBurner, yup, I’ve seen that chart! Definitely an apple – even after losing all this weight, what’s left is all in the middle.

Cathy, sounds like a good fix from the dressmaker!

I like the Taffeta dress, is the bottom too much material for you? The mesh dress sounds like it would be the most flattering. This thread has been fun!

The skirt on the taffetta dress is stunning. The top is very low cut on me, though. I’m going to be contradancing in whatever I wear, so actually a swirly skirt is good. The portrait collar mesh also has a fairly full skirt.

I need to get some shapewear and see how things look/fit with that.

I like all those dresses but really love the taffeta one. It’s just so fun and different and will be amazing for dancing. My second favorite is the Adrianna Papell chiffon dresss. What is interesting is that all those dresses have kind of a similar shape. Clearly you’ve figured out a good design for your shape. Excited for you!

Nice dresses in the semi-final round, CountingDown. There is something about layers of chiffon that works for many body types.

The taffeta dress is the one that seems most festive to me. Probably because it reminds me of the childhood party dresses I wore with scratchy crinoline petty coats. I ordered that taffeta dress, so will see it IRL. I predict it will be too low cut. We’ll see.

good morning!

Countingdown and JEM:

So glad to hear you have some contenders! Please do not rule out any dress that you like that doesn’t fit perfectly…that’s what they have tailors for! No matter what size you are each outfit needs to be tweeked somehow…I use a tailor very often just to make the outfit fit my body.

Countingdown…they are all beautiful dresses. Whatever you choose you’ll look lovely. Just remember that one that is too big on top can also be altered.
JEM…let us know what your girlfriend and D think of your selections.
Merlin…Wow, you’ll have “fun” narrowing down all your choices as they arrive in the mail. Hopefully one will stand out from all the others as the ONE. Good luck! :)

Keep us posted girls! :)

[Alex Evenings Glitter Jacket Dress | Dillards.com](<a href=“Access Denied”>Access Denied)

I loved the color, structured yet very comfortable shape of the jacket, etc. BUT the glitter is too much for a morning wedding. Had to rule it out.

[Komarov Pleated Charmeuse Dress & Chiffon Jacket | Nordstrom](http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/komarov-pleated-charmeuse-dress-chiffon-jacket/3132490?origin=category&BaseUrl=Dresses+%26+Separates)

This dress, suggested by **chocchipcookie/B, may be a winner. Neighbor loved the color (purple smoke hombre and much prettier than what shows online). I am SO glad I ordered when I did, as that shade in my size is no longer available. I had also ordered this in the vintage rose shade, but neighbor felt that would make me too washed out as well as older. Neighbor thinks the purple smoke shade will not clash with the bridesmaids’ spiced wine color. The dress, since it comes in petite, is a good length for me and I love how the skirt has a little flare/flounce at the hem (did not show much in the picture). Actually, the top of the dress differs somewhat from the online picture – they must modify them over time. Anyhow, I am really happy to have this option safely in a closet. When my D visits in early May I will get her opinion, and if she OKs it, I am set! :)

THANK YOU ALL!

P.S. Neighbor felt the navy options would be too somber and I was not enthusiastic about that color for me anyway.

JEM, you’ve picked my favorite option. And definitely the best of the colors.

There must be a name for this game we are playing. Crowd-dressing perhaps.

JEM… I agree. The dress from Nordstrom’s is definitely a winner. The style make it very appropriate for a morning wedding and the color seems perfect. Good choice!

Thanks so much for the feedback! I am so very grateful to this group!

And thanks to Garland for having started this thread.

“crowd dressing” – yes, that is what we are doing, LOL! :)

Where is the “like” button?
