JEM, what a wonderful dress! Good color choice. The detail at the hem is lovely, as is the puckered texture of the bodice, although perhaps it is a bit different than the photo. And it will coordinate with the “spiced wine” color.
You will look mahhvelous!
Imagine if we could easily post pics of ourselves on this site. I am actually considering posting pics of myself in the MOG “finalist” dresses on my FB. Then my very small group of FB friends could vote. But I don’t think I trust FB enough to do that. :)

^Thanks again for the feedback. You are confirming my confidence in the choice!

Merlin, I would love it if we could see pictures of your son’s wedding in Russia. What a special destination wedding!

JEM! :)

You selected a dress! Awesome! I’m soooooo happy it looked good on you and I’m also glad you got the darker purplish color (as opposed to the lighter pink one).

YAYAYAYAYAYAY :D

So glad your neighbor liked it and hope your D does too. Okay! 1 down, 3 to go! Although I think garland may have abandoned her own thread! :(

Waiting to hear final selections from Countingdown and Merlin…although from what you say, Merlin, you have lots coming in to choose from!

Merlin: You & I have already established that we have only “men” in our homes besides us, but I love putting on a fashion show for them! Many times I’ll call some girlfriends over too and have them help me pick from a select few I’ve narrowed down, whatever the occasion may be. Hope your narrowing down a choice won’t be too too difficult.

Countingdown: How’s it going?? The 4 choices you have in the running all seem like good choices! Hope you have a clear winner too.

Okay, this was fun! Anyone else out there need help finding a formal occasion dress?;)

I have been reading and bookmarking links;
I’ll be working on the weight for a bit before shopping for a dress for son’s November wedding.

^^Oh goody! :)

When do Fall/Winter clothes appear in the stores? Maybe by mid-summer? Remind us and I’d love to participate if you don’t mind! :)

The last dress arrived today. Tough decisions!!! I am glad I ordered it in an 18, because the comments said it ran small. They weren’t kidding. This one would need to be hemmed, which involves removing sequins, as it goes to the floor (and I’m 5’8). It looked tea-length online. It looks wonderful, but is not too swirly for dancing. It is more sparkly than the bride’s dress or the MOB’s. Think I will need to run this past them.

Hey Countingdown:

I know you are deciding between some dresses now and I hope I helped you with the 4 that I like. I just found two more at Nordstrom…not sure if these can be contenders or not, or whether you ruled them out already.

Since I only figured how to cut & paste one at a time, here’s the first one:
[J Kara Embellished Chiffon Gown | Nordstrom](http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/j-kara-embellished-chiffon-gown/3315132?origin=category&BaseUrl=Dresses)

Hope you can see this one. Now I’ll go find the other dress and post it in a minute…

Here’s the second one:
[J Kara Beaded Mock Two Piece Chiffon Gown | Nordstrom](http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/j-kara-beaded-mock-two-piece-chiffon-gown/3213811?origin=category&BaseUrl=Dresses)

The reason I chose these two is because they have the sequins, but not all the way down to the bottom of the dress. So if you need to hem the dress, it will be easier since the sequins won’t be in the way. Also, with less sequins, it may be cooler for you to wear, considering the wedding is in August.

Let me know your thoughts are these two “new” choices! :)

JEM: Hoping your D will love the purple dress…it’s really beautiful!
Merlin: Packages arriving at your house everyday?? ;)

Yes to packages!
In my possession are 11 fancy dresses, 8 styles, mostly navy. The ones with flared skirts just don’t work on me. I feel like I should wear cowgirl boots with them–not a MOG look that I aspire to. So, “No,” to the Adrianna Papell with the taffeta skirt, that I was sure I would love.

And I am having a more difficult time with glitzy sequins and beads than I expected. One of the heavily beaded dresses in plum color by Patra, looks fine, but weighs too much to carry in my luggage! And I cannot imagine where else I would ever wear it.

It has been interesting to discover that I wear a smaller size than I expected. Could be that with quality brands, the vanity sizing is appealing to my vanity!
Honestly, I remember wearing a size 10 skirt in the '80’s. It is now a bit tight, although the fancy dresses that fit size 6.

So the contenders:
(and this is where we all notice that I do not know how to post a link, other than to copy/paste the url)

[Mayfair Dress WH480 Knee Length Dresses at Boden](http://www.bodenusa.com/en-US/Womens-Dresses/Knee-Length-Dresses/WH480/Womens-Mayfair-Dress.html)

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/sue-wong-sleeveless-embroidered-tulle-dress

I really like both dresses. The Boden dress comes in navy and is much prettier than the pic shows. The beading is subtle. It seems a tiny bit big, but there are no more size 4’s available. Overall, it would be the conservative, sensible choice.

I really need to work on my upper arms for the Sue Wong dress. Need to go kayaking a lot! And this dress is not navy, but I think it might be OK with the bride.
I would need a wrap for the Sue Wong dress. It is more glamorous. I will need to ask some friends.

What color shoes for each dress?
I love my Via Spiga black, faux snakeskin kitten heels that have a thin mary jane strap, and shiny silver heels. Does a grey dress need patent leather?

Oh, not that you all aren’t friends!! I just meant I will need to ask some geographically close friends.

Hi ya Merlin:

I just saw your first dress link from Boden…nice! The second dress link did not work. Is it possible to re-send it again?

Has your S & new DIL been able to tell you what the wedding mood will be? Dressy, formal, informal…any idea what bride’s mom will be wearing? Dressy, plain, beaded…that may help set the tone for which of all these lovely dresses you choose! :)

It’s got to be a bit crazy, with all the wedding details happening on the other side of the world! Yikes. Well, at least you are ruling out styles that don’t look as good on you as others!

Chochip, try this for the Sue Wong dress:
[Sue Wong Sleeveless Embroidered Tulle Dress | Nordstrom](http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/sue-wong-sleeveless-embroidered-tulle-dress/3442527?origin=keywordsearch&contextualcategoryid=0&fashionColor=&resultback=212)

Soon I will skype with the bride and hope to get some clarity about dress code. She sent a link to a youtube of the place where the wedding will be held. Very elegant! Long wide staircase, ornate wall paneling, many photo opps. The person officiating was behind a table with a small Russian flag on it.

Don’t want to hijack, but my question IS wedding-related. A bride-to-be I know has told her attendants to select an appropriate long dress and send her a picture so she could approve it. One bridesmaid found a great dress and texted a pic of her wearing the dress in question. The bride loved the dress and gave her approval with one caveat: “You must wear closed-toe or peep-toe shoes because sandals are be too casual.”

I was surprised at this. I’ve always thought strappy sandals were the way to go. What do you think?

Merlin- I love the Sue Wong!

Agree. That’s a beautiful dress.

Merlin, Love the grey color and detail, beautiful!

Thanks for the grey dress endorsement. IRL, it has a sheen and the skirt is straighter than it appears in the pic. Fits me like a glove. Sometimes I wonder if it looks too much like updated hippie wear, with all the soutache. But then again, I am an updated old hippie. Love dangly earrings!

another thumbs up!

Whoa. Merlin: that’s beautiful. A real statement dress. If your DIL-to-be doesn’t mind that it’s not navy blue, it’s a very pretty dress!

Masslou: I agree that fancy sandals would look great and compliment a long dress…what time of year is the wedding? Can the bride be persuaded at all? Maybe the venue that she’s holding the wedding in wants more conservative attire?

Merlin:

What do you think of this one?
