Just wanted to pop in to say I’ve been enjoying seeing the pictures of all the latest dresses under consideration and to wish everyone the best at these very special family occasions. Pretty Sue Wong dress, and that Tadashi Shoji, nice find Choc, similar in ways but in navy.

How did I miss that Tadashi Shoji dress that chochip found? Lovely!

Here is another Tadashi Shoji that I like a lot, but should have ordered in a medium.

I’m also loving this thread! Wondering if anybody has seen or tried on this dress during their quest for the perfect frock! I really like it.

Ladies, I’d love to have you be my personal shoppers when I need a special dress. I love most of your choices.

Garland, I can’t wait to see what you end up getting.

rutgersmama, I kept looking at that dress, but alas, not for my body type!

Chochipcookie, I am still deciding, but am getting more inclined towards the chiffon Papell – [Adrianna Papell Chiffon Dress | Dillards.com](<a href=“Access Denied”>Access Denied)

Also had my friends from my former job look at the my pics in all the dresses. It is comfortable, flattering, and I can contra dance in it.

Merlin – I love that gray. I looked at a few gray/silver dresses, but they washed me out out too much. Bummer, because I tend to wear a lot of charcoal gray and thought it would be a good option.

Countingdown:

That looks like an AWESOME dress for you!
Did you have a chance to look at the two dresses in my posts 248 & 249 for you? If you choose against them, I think that this dress you are leaning toward is beautiful and a wonderful choice!

Yay, two down…JEM and Countingdown are nearly finished with their selections. Enjoying helping Merlin…maybe the new find from Neiman’s will be in the running?
This has been fun!

Rutgersmamma, the Pisarro Nights dress looks to be a beauty. It is one I found when we did a group search for a 20s theme cocktail party and may have been selected. If it was, it would be fun to hear how she liked the dress and how the party went.

Countingdown and chocchip, I love the dresses in posts 248 and 249.

Today I skyped with the bride and her mom. I think the grey Sue Wong dress has won the contest. I tried on two dresses for them and, for as much as they could see on Skype, liked the grey dress. MOB has not chosen her dress yet and the bride assured me that people attending Russian weddings just wear whatever they want–no coordinating of colors, styles.

I really appreciate all of the support and endorsements for my extravagance!

Chocchip, my hesitation with the V-neck tadashi shoji dress is that I rarely find V-necks that flatter. My body type is mostly thin, angular, with wide shoulders and hips, which also means flattish. I don’t have the bust to support a V-neck.
I will probably keep the navy dress as well. I only buy a nice dress about every ten years. I wear one about once every three years. The navy one will work for a college graduation-- or so I am imagining, because I want a reason to keep it.

I will keep checking in with this thread. It is fun!

Rutgersmamma:

Yeah, your dress link is indeed a very pretty one. Wonder how the poster made out when she said she was buying it for a roaring 20’s themed party.

Merlin: Keep the navy one anyway…maybe you & H will take a cruise or a trip where it will come in handy…or you’ll be invited to other occasions to wear it… IMO it may be a bit too formal for a college grad…I imagine very pretty day dresses (garden party type) for a graduation…nothing wrong with having a dress in your closet to have on hand when the occasion comes…I have several dresses I’ve bought over the years for “no special reason” that I have had plenty of occasions to wear them. Maybe you’ll wear it on your trip to Russia!!

And Congrats on deciding on the grey Sue Wong dress…really beautiful and your vision of a wrap with it sounds quite elegant. Yay!

That means three down and no ones heard from garland?? Shucks, I’m ready to pick out a dress for the next “victim”, I mean poster, hehe. :D

chocchip, I agree that the navy dress is too formal/serious for a college graduation. It’s just that the college graduation in 2014 is presently the only scheduled event besides the Russia trip. I was searching for an excuse to keep the dress!
IRL, all of the graduations I have attended required a warm coat or jacket, so the dress was never seen. Could it be that I live in New England, where spring arrives late and we are inordinately thrifty?

If you love the dress, keep it! And then make your H take you on a cruise so you can wear it! Do you anticipate wedding invitations in the future? Your children’s friends, your friend’s children, your relatives…

The frugal/thrifty side of me also would have to justify keeping it…is there a rehearsal dinner the night before?? I’m thinking!

Merlin: that navy dress is beautiful! If you like it and it fits, keep it. An occasion will arise! Rehearsal dinner and a cruise are good suggestions, also funeral, baptism, special evening out.

Maybe too much beading for a funeral…another wedding would be great.

Or a CC parent’s prom!

Merlin, the Russians dress much more formally than we do, so the dress might be very useful, especially if you get tickets to a ballet performance (I highly recommend!). If it is not going to put a large dent in your budget, keep it.

I appreciate the encouragement to keep the navy dress. No dressy events on the horizon, but the dress is classic and versatile enough to earn its keep.
As for the budget, we are the sort of middle income folks who savedsavedsaved for our kids’ college, like our parents did for us. Not elegible for FA, but the kids sure needed, and got, merit aid.
Now we are planning this Russian trip, a bit beyond what I had envisioned for a son’s wedding. In light of the slippery slope we are on toward a wonderful experience, I figure a few hundred dollars here or there might as well be here, with me, and a dress I love.

Bunsen, I had heard that the Russians are more formal, but I have talked with a Russian friend who said her mother wore a skirt and blouse to her sister’s wedding; no need for new clothes.
Also the bride has advised that I get lower heel shoes for events after the ceremony. Not sure what that’s all about. Sandals sound right, but it may be too chilly. It will be during White Nights.

Arg… I’ve written this post three times and it keeps disappearing! Gremlins who don’t wish me to look thin on my daughter’s wedding day…

Honestly, I don’t know how I’ve missed this thread for so long! Love all the dresses and kinda wish I had come here before I bought the dress Im wearing for my D’s wedding in June! As it is, I bought a lovely St John suit (dress and jacket) that I think will be great for an evening wedding on a lakefront - where it’s likely to get chilly. However, since it is a sheath kind of fit, I need a very good shaper to wear underneath this knit for as smooth a look as possible.

[St. John Collection Sequin Ice Tweed Knit Jacket | Nordstrom](http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/st-john-collection-sequin-ice-tweed-knit-jacket/3410662)

I’m having the dress hemmed slightly so it sits just above the knee vs at it (and in this case, it hit me mid-knee which isn’t flattering to the leg) and Im having the jacket adjusted to a bracelet sleeve vs long sleeved. They sent back to St John to have the work done.

Anyway… I saw a few pages back that ChocChip recommended Body Wrap and I was looking at the one that basically goes from thigh to shoulders!! I liked the adjustable straps (that weren’t so thick that they would show on a sleeveless dress) and I can wear the bra I bought that works to keep the eye ABOVE (vs in the middle). But I was wondering two things… would this be considered a super shaper? Spanks rates their shaper as light and super, so was just curious. Also wondering if this is a satiny fabric as I am not a fan of Spank material for certain dresses.

Also, is there a reason why it’s suggested to buy a size larger besides it being tight? I really don’t want it stretching out, but I also want to breath! I was looking at high waisted ones, but even if they attach to the bra, I don’t want it riding down across my back…

Honestly, there is as much concern as what is going on under the dress as what is going on WITH the dress! Hoping to drop about 7 pounds in the next six weeks, which should be doable IF I can stay away from nervous grazing!! That’s kinda a big “if”

Hi Modadunn!

Congrats on your D’s wedding and for picking out such a beautiful outfit!

I think the body wrap would be perfect for this outfit. Very thin material, just one type of thickness, they don’t have light or super shaper. It does NOT have that sheen that Spanx has which is a main reason I like them so much better.

I usually order them on seamlessbody dot com. Maybe if you go to that website you can give them a call with some of your questions. Ask them about their return policy too. When I’ve ordered them, they were not wrapped in any plastic packaging, but just brand new, neatly folded and delivered. I just threw them in the washing machine before I wore them. When you go to that website they have a link for size charts. I “was” a medium until recently, ahem But on the higher end of the medium range, so I bought the large. Over a few years it stretches out, but holds it’s shape for quite awhile.

I usually get the long leg panty for $38, but I can see the advantage of getting a whole body shaper since the outfit fits to the body. Give them a call & see if they are able to answer your questions! Good luck, hope it works out for you!

Just catching up on this thread. I love the Sue Wong grey dress… so sophisticated and simple at the same time. Tadashi always has lovely dresses. I have tried on several for different reasons over the recent past. Like the Boden dress and I agree that in navy, it would be a dress that can be dressed up or down and worn for many different opportunities. It would be a keeper for me. Wish I had somewhere to go. I would order the Sue Wong dress and save it, but I have a black dress that I had bought to wear to wedding we couldn’t get to in Arizona thanks to Hurricane Sandy… so I need someplace to go to wear it. Just went to a weekend wedding in West Point but the party was late afternoon and the black dress is more of a Saturday night black tie kind of dress.

Maybe it is time for an event for CC posters so we could all wear our dresses.
Is there a travel get-away special in some fun location, where we could met up?

So, I have avoided my own thread, because I got embarrassed that I am so behind in the actual buying. The semester at work got too busy, and I am just out of time! However, Nordstrom kept stalking me on FB and everywhere, putting in front of me the dresses I have looked at. So I ordered three of them, all variations of flaring at the waste, solid color (blue family), knee length or more, no-sleeves. They should be here Tuesday and then I will hopefully be able to pick one! This is hard!!!
