merlin: We have Ukranian employees/friends, and the women wear thin scarves over their hair in church. Can be a long lace scarf. You should check with your future DIL if that is needed.

garland: you can call Nordstrom and they will help you over the phone. They have personal shoppers; maybe you can make an appointment for that over the phone. You could have several things sent to you to try on–free shipping and returns.

Please get comfortable shoes that you can stand in for hours for the wedding. My best friend bought inexpensive shoes from Target that went well with her dress but that hurt her feet. She ended up in her stocking feet at her son’s wedding at a very fancy reception!

LOOK WHAT I FOUND AT NORDSTROM!! MY H HELPED ME CUT AND PASTE. HOPE YOU CAN SEE THIS BEAUTIFUL DRESS IN TEAL VERY SIMILAR TO THE TEAL ONE YOU WANTED TO ORDER!!! ONLY $178!! HOPE YOU CAN SEE THIS DRESS. IF NOT, THEN GO TO NORDSTROM WEBSITE AND LOOK AT ELIZAJ EMBELLISHED HALTER GOWN IN TEAL OR PINK!!! IT’S GORGEOUS!!
I’ve been away on vacation and just catching up so I’ve looked at this entire thread. There are many lovely dresses posted. I especially liked the little lace dress from L & T and several of the dresses from both Nordstrom and Bloomies as well as that spectacular dress from Bergdorf. The J Crew dress is simple and lovely. I personally don’t think your original choice of dress is special enough for d’s wedding. I do like her dress choice by the way, very simple and elegant at the same time. It sounds to me depending on where you live that a trip to Nordstroms or Bloomingdales or Lord & Taylor is in order. Good luck and let us know what you choose… then after the dress, what about shoes???

Garland, I just came from the mall and stopped in at Coldwater. They have the pink version of your dress and it is very nice- even lined! The clerk told me that a woman bought one this morning for a beach wedding in Florida! I think you should order it.

OK, opening this thread again because I am down to some finalists and have ordered a couple already…fire away!

Size 16, apple shape, 5’8", hope to lose another 15 by August. Cannot believe that a 16 is a little loose (but not quite loose enough for a 14). Considering where I was, this is nothing short of a miracle. ;)

CountingDown, they’re all beautiful, but I, too, immediately fell for that Alex Evenings gown. Have you gotten to try the dresses to see which one you like best on you?

I just pm’d Garland last week to see if she has chosen her dress yet!

Countingdown: refresh my memory: is this a mother of the bride/groom dress too or as a wedding guest?
I too like #1 and #5. However the Nordstrom website has lots & lots of choices, many more than listed here…do they come in your size?? Are you going for a certain color scheme?

Just responding to an update that I had in my email… that I thought was from this week or last week… of the five dresses with links, I like the first one from Nordstrom the best. The one from David’s Bridal is nice too. The Calvin Klein day dress is lovely… but better if there was going to a be a bridal shower or a rehersal dinner, in my opinion. I didn’t care for the other two at all.

Thanks for the kick in the pants, though probably unintended. I need to get on down to Nordstroms–every time I open up my computer, their ads are all over with lovely dresses.

I’ve been freezing on this and need to get moving.

Thanks so much for the feedback I am not confident about this kind of stuff at all. I’m MOG – MOB is wearing something right at the knee. She has ordered a purple dress, but is also thinking about a navy lace dress. Wedding colors are royal blue and silver. I ordered the silver and blue Marina dresses. A little too body conscious for me, though they looked better on me than I expected.

The Davids Bridal dress only goes to a 14, and the sizing looks like the waist will be way too small. May go in and see if they have one I can try on.

I have a big scar on my upper chest and do not want too much exposure. Don’t have a waist, dont have cleavage and still have a stomach. I have no hips. OTOH, I was a size 26-28 two years ago, so a 16 is mind-blowing for me! :). Fit and flare seems to work well for my body type.

I like 1 & 5, but am concerned that 5 will be cut too snugly for my problem areas. I am also going to be contra dancing in this dress, so a flared skirt would be good (and enough coverage on shoulders and front that I can dance and not have a wardrobe malfunction!).

Ooh, Dillards has the portrait collar again! I just worry it will be too open on top. It was sold out when I was looking this weekend. Unfortunately, the nearest Dillards in 2.5 hours away will have to order online.

I ordered the CK dress in red and think it would be great for more professional occasions than for a wedding.

Blue is a great color for me, but I just dont want to look too matchy with the wedding party. I also dont want to outshine the MOB!

Off topic, and I apologize, but how did you do it? Congrats – truly inspirational!
I have lost 26 lbs. from my all-time high, but have plateaued since.
