Dress people, MOB help???

“Has anyone noticed the trend for lace dresses?”

I bought the spring issue of InStyle a few weeks ago and lace dresses were everywhere.

Love the Tadashi Shoji.

Love love this dress, either in pink or navy! If you’re not tall, the length should be fine too.

[Evelina Dress WH476 Above Knee Dresses at Boden](http://www.bodenusa.com/en-US/Womens-Dresses/Above-Knee-Dresses/WH476/Womens-Evelina-Dress.html)

Merlin- how fun to attend a wedding in Russia! Make sure you research their dress codes if the wedding is in a place of worship…bare arms, bare shoulders, bare head, knee caps showing.

Choc chip- you can’t add pictures, but you can provide a link with a basic copy and paste. (Or you could type the complete web address)

That Boden dress is lovely. Love the color, drape, and simplicity.

Any suggestions as to what would like nice on an apple-shaped lady, around size 18-20 or so? After four kids, my mom carries most of her weight in her stomach and chest, and she’s really self-conscious. Any suggestions for tops or suits that would flatter someone with that kind of build? My mom will probably want to wear pants, and also to cover her arms to at least the elbow.

Chocchip–I haven’t ordered yet, but I am strongly leaning towards this one which Kajon originally posted:
[Style MO072-Discount plus size dresses](Beach Mother of the Bride Dress $139)

I still like my original choice, and I appreciate those who voted for it, but the no-print contingent have been persuasive. I would like to order both, actually, and I might just.

Thanks again to all suggestions!!!

Garland, that one is VERY pretty! Order both and see what works best for the wedding. You might just want to keep your original choice, too! Never know when you might need another dress, though I can’t remember if you wear dresses much.

I didn’t think about the print in picture issue…but I buy it.

^^Thanks, Kajon. I’ve been taught to cut & paste a million times. Do ya think I should remember how to already???

Garland:

Very pretty! So many colors to choose from! What color are you thinking of?? What about the matching wrap?? That would look really nice! Very nice choice. Yeah, why don’t you buy your original choice too, just to see what it looks like on you? Either you’ll decide to wear it, return it or save it for other weddings or similar occasions! You’ll have to report back to us after you’ve tried on a few styles! :)

garland, very pretty. Agree that you should order both. Is there going to be a rehearsal dinner, the CWC dress could work for that if it’s a dressy-er affair

Not sure if there is or not (it’s complicated). But yeah, i was thinking that. But down here in CM, almost no place is that dressy, so, probably wouldn’t work.

Color–actually, the teal shown is exactly right, i think. And I would get the matching wrap.

Thanks again for everyone’s input!

It is a very pretty dress, very good choice.

Beautiful dress, garland.

I like it too. And I think you should find a use for that first dress. Unless the rehearsal dinner is super casual I think it would be fine for almost anything - easy to dress up or down.

I agree about both dresses having a purpose. And both are lovely.

As an MOG I also share most of your characteristics for body shape, etc., although I find my skinny arms to be a bit saggy, so have to keep them by my sides. Is there a dress with weights in the cap sleeves to remind me not to raise my arms? lol
I need a toning regimen! I can no longer get by on just riding my bike.
Gravity is so cruel!

Kajon, post 124: So glad you reminded me about the bare arm issue. I need to have a skype with my potential DIL.
In Russia the wedding customs may include at least 2 ceremonies, one at a government building, another at a church. DIL is Orthodox, so I expect that we will visit a beautiful church.
This is likely to be followed by a reception, probably at a restaurant. Between the 2 ceremonies, the bride and groom drive around the city, visiting important historic sites, taking photos. I have no idea whether parents are included in this part, or if bride and groom will even do all of it. I expect they will, as DIL likes to take photos everywhere she goes. S seems amenable to whatever DIL plans.

Don’t mean to hijack garland’s thread, but it really resonates with me!

Hijack away, i’m in 24hr wedding talk mode right now!

Garland - I am convinced that I no longer have a life of my own. Today I was a Macy’s and these sandals reminded me of your beach wedding. I can’t remember if you need a certain type of shoe, but they actually looked decent and very comfy and they come in gold, bronze and pewter metallic. I thought they might look okay on the beach and then you could swap into your spikes for the dancing!

Merlin - LOL on the arms…me too!

Thanks, Kajon, and thanks for the dress! (I’m more of a Payless type when it comes to buying shoes, but those sure do look comfortable!)

So darn! I was going to order today, but in looking more closely, I realized the company is a direct from overseas (somseone upthread alluded to that, but I really didn’t get it meant direct from China). From reading review sites, it sounds like the products are exremely unevenly made, customer service is terrible, and returns are difficult and expenseive (require rush shipment and 30% restocking fee–and that’s if you ask within 5 days and they agree!!!)

I think I’m going to have to look again. Possibly one of a couple Suzy Chins from Nordstrom tht were mentioned earlier. Or that Alex Evenings one.

Well, on the upside, I put the down payment on a cake this morning!

Oh garland:

That’s too bad. :frowning: With something as an important as your D’s wedding, you don’t want to take chances!

I will tell you that Nordstrom’s has an excellent reputation for customer service and that they will bend over backwards to help you find the right dress and accessories. You may want to look at Nordstrom’s website under their bridal-mom’s dresses. I did that early on last week when I saw this thread and I saw many dresses that would be suitable for your D’s type of wedding. Plus, they can also fit you with an appropraite wrap or short jacket, shrug or fancy cardigan, if needed. I did see things there that were not a whole lot pricier…in the $200 range…and the quality you will feel will be worth the few extra $$ spent. And the comfortable feeling of working with a professional to find just the right dress for you.

If not Nordstrom’s, then try Dillards, Macy’s, etc. A salesperson should really help you with this purchase. Maybe you could print the pictures of a bunch of dresses and bring them into the stores with you. If you want to do it on-line, I’m sure they can help you that way too.

Good luck and keep the faith! Something will work out.
