Dress Your Hamburger/ Hot Dog

Ketchup on hot dogs is an abomination. I will die on that hill.

Hamburger: Thick, raw sweet onion, mustard, pickle, lettuce, tomato

Hot Dog=Chili Dog (must be footlong): Lots of diced onion, mustard, sauerkraut

Rarely eat either, no bun with either.

Beef burger - medium rare, lettuce, onion, maybe tomato, russian dressing

Lamb burger - horseradish sauce, lettuce

Beyond/impossible - as above but added cheese

Hot dog - Hebrew National (they answer to a higher authority) :innocent: , either ketchup or dijon mustard.

That jar of pickle relish sitting in the fridge is safe from me.

The bun is optional for me too. But if I’m having a bun, a brioche or bun meant for a non-wimpy hot dog is appreciated.

I don’t like ketchup either.

The only GREAT commercial hot dog I ever ate was at Fudrucker’s because of their awesome buns. However, they’ve closed all down around here.

There was a Fud in southeastern Michigan - a dining experience! Haha

Hot dog: only $1.50 Costco dog will do. A classic with a cult following! Whatever Costco has as far as condiments go. Haven’t had a hot dog since pre-pandemic! Yikes

Burger: no pink but moist and juicy, onions, lettuce and/or kraut, Swiss cheese, mustard, pickles, a smudge of ketchup, maybe sautéed mushrooms. Skip the bun.

I’m with @kelsmom . I hate any kind of condiment except I will eat Italian dressing on a salad.

I don’t eat hotdogs.

Fave burger is a Five Guys with bacon and mushrooms. I prefer thinner patties. Bun is a little squishy for my taste though.

I’d like to try a burger with the exact type sourdough bun as Schlotskys uses. I haven’t lived anywhere near a Schlotskys for decades but their buns are superb.

So much bun skipping! Is it a preference or an avoidance of carbs? I can’t imagine skipping the bun!

I was wondering when Top Dog would enter the chat! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I’m a bread snob. Most hamburger and hot dog buns taste like cardboard to me  I will eat a really tasty, artisanal bun but those are hard to come by!

When I dine at Five Guys, I order my burger “All the Way” which includes lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, mustard, and mayo.

When I make burgers at home, I do lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, ketchup, and mustard. Grilled onions and grilled mushroom are delicious but too much work. I sometimes spread a little butter on brioche bun and placed it in the air fryer to toast it a bit.

I did try an Ina Garten burger recipe recently which had carmelized red onions and gruyere cheese on top. It was yummy!

For hot dogs, I like pickle relish, mustard, AND ketchup, which my H thinks is a sacrilege.

I don’t eat many hot dogs, but when I do I prefer them to be beef, and I like Gray Poupon style mustard, mayo (optional but if it’s there I will use it) and relish.
For hamburgers I am definitely a toppings person. At home I want medium rare, and cooked with onions inside, but out I will do medium. I am fine with (not American if I can help it) cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayo, but also like “fun” topping combos, but I can’t think of any right now. One place I used to go had some kind of jam, maybe huckleberry, that was part of a toppings combo with was really tasty. I don’t like mustard on burgers, but I do like spicy mayo and other interesting things like that.

I’m not a big hot dog fan. On occasion when I eat one I prefer all beef and grilled. I admit to at times eating a Hot dog from Costco. It’s been years as we now do chicken sausages instead. I like yellow mustard and relish.
If we are at home we just do veggie burgers. I like mayo, provolone cheese, pickle and lettuce. Grilled onion if I’m ambitious. Avocado or guacamole if I have it.
Out I usually order a turkey burger. My two favorite spots include cheese, 1000 island, lettuce, avocado and tomato. One uses a brioche bun and the other place uses a in house made wheat bun.
I’m also a fan of a gooey smash burger.
Ketchup is just for fries.

This thread is reminding me of the song for the Big Mac, which I still know by heart, but I used to be able to do backwards also

Not trying to avoid carbs but most buns don’t add any flavor for me - just a vehicle to get it in my mouth. A knife and fork do the trick.

Sometime I’m going to make homemade sourdough hamburger buns - maybe they will taste better

One thing I don’t like on a burger is bacon. Feels like meat overkill to me. And a stomachache!

Some unusual burger toppings I’ve had that actually have been delicious….loke @1214mom I’ve had like a raspberry or cherry jam - delicious. Tomato jam and caramelized onions - awesome! I also had a PB and J burger once and it was surprisingly good!

Speaking of unusual burger toppings, when I was young my father would bring home a bag of McDonald’s Quarter Pounder with cheese. He would fry an egg and top the hamburger with it.

Your post inspired me to provide this - it’s from one of our hangouts in Grand Cayman (Tukka is the restaurant name). I had never had it, but both of my sons have. Getting this burger was quite a thing when they were teens.
