Dressing Young (2024)

Good suggestion @conmama. (not sure I can drive in these anyway :grinning:).

When I have any type of heel on, I have to take my shoe off to drive. If I arrive at a valet, they have to wait while I put my shoe back on!

I like both of the navy dresses displayed above.

I cannot wear thin heels anymore. I finally gave up and bought more of a chunky heel barely gold shoe at Cole Hahn. I brought 5 shoes with me to dressmaker, all silver, but the CH one won out.

I personally would love it with gold shoes and clutch, jewelry, shawl/wrap OR platinum/silver if that is what you wear.

Love the dress @FallGirl.

@FallGirl i sympathize with the shoe issue. I have a slim foot also and any sandal is really hard to find.

I think the shoe you linked is great. But a wedge might also be a good option if those don’t fit.

I would go with either a silver or gold shoe based on what color jewelry you wear.

I ended up ordering the shoes in black. I buy so few pairs of dress shoes that I wanted something that might be stylish a bit longer (I know the silver/gold are more trendy now). If I don’t like the way they look with the dress I will consider the metallic.

You could also just go with a silver block heel ankle strap like this. Block heels are more comfy.

Gorgeous and elegant dress, Fallgirl. I personally like sandals/shoes that don’t have a strap across the ankle (that allows the long line of leg to be visible).

Would something like this work?

I need recommendations for a pair of shoes (sneakers? sandals?) to wear for an all day music festival and also walking tours around Europe. I’ve always gotten away with just wearing flip flops (or Hokas for actual exercise walks/runs), but my feet and back are starting to really hurt after standing for more than an hour. Bonus if they look cute/stylish too!

What season?

The music festival is the end of August in New England, so probably in the 70’s. Europe is end of September into October.

Deb,
I have those mephisto’s! I agree about the cork on the bottom.

My beach shoes are white Birks, the plastic ones, $50. I wear a 35 EU. I haven’t looked for some with more of a heel. W

I guess we have a dressing young 2024 and a dressing young part 2 :grinning:

@bookworm, I do like those mephiso’s a lot. My trip was in June. I brought them and wore them quite a bit. I also bought a pair of teva flip flops for the beach and they worked out great.

@flyawayx2 shoes are so subjective. Last year I wore my adidas ultraboost to Europe and they were very comfortable. Not as clunky as my Brooks ghost that I work out in. But not that fashionable either.

I was in Spain and Portugal this past spring and most women both tourists and locals had some sort of sneaker even with dresses.
I took a pair of Hoka Solimar in white and I was very happy. They are not as chunky as most styles of Hokas. I saw lots of Adidas and cute Veja brand shoes.

People seem to either love them or hate them, but Keen sandals are pretty comfortable and I’ve walked for many miles in them (up to 13 at least). People were socks with them, although I never have.
I wore them doing walking tours in Europe and in New Zealand, including with dresses.
When we’ve been traveling I’ve noticed many more people wearing comfortable shoes, even with dresses.

Here are my two go to walking shoes when on travel or spending a lot of time on my feet. I wear both with pants or dresses and wore them in Europe last fall.

I agree that walking shoes are personal, but what I like about both pairs below is that I walked 20K steps many days with no sore feet or blisters and I think the shoes looked stylish too.

Same when I was there in April. Don’t get caught up with what the 20-something influencers think you should wear to Europe. Go for comfort. I literally saw locals & tourists wearing every conceivable type of fashion when I was there. Went to Spain, Italy & CZ.

I wore my Allbirds all over Spain/Portugal last fall. They are very comfortable to me. I’ll also be taking them to Italy in October.
