Dressing Young (2024)

This is just about the most perfect dress I’ve ever seen. Oh to be young and thin and to be able to just try it on!! :blue_heart:

Gorgeous!! A.L.C. makes great dresses.

That is a beautiful dress. The side ruching is so flattering …

Incidentally, that dress made me think of my very vintage sleeveless denim maxi dress. I cannot tell you how old it is, but I likely got it the first time skirts were that length. I wear it once or twice a year.

That’s a super cute dress, Marilyn! I like anything that nips in the waist - belt looks very adjustable!

It has fit over a wide range of weights!

Love the dress - I think it would make a great bride’s maid dress that could be worn again. I don’t go to a lot of very formal events, so otherwise I wouldn’t have much use for it, but it’s lovely and “just my style.”

Are any CC’ers doing the current shoe + sock trend with everything from jeans to casual skirts/dresses??? If so, give some examples.

A couple of examples - I’m not trying too hard to find examples so take with a grain of salt…

No socks with dresses and Mary James. I would look about 2 feet tall.

I am looking forward to wearing socks with sneakers and cropped jeans. I always struggled with the no sock look in the winter. So I’m happy socks are back but not with dresses.

No, I won’t be doing this. I remember wearing socks (that had ruffles) and heels for a very short period of time in the early 90’s. I wasn’t cutesy enough, couldn’t pull it off. But I had a friend who was shorter and looked adorable.

I doubt I will be doing this, but I could see my DIL and other younger people doing the first look. The other 2 I don’t like, but that’s just me.

My daughter is already doing this and I see it around the campus near our house but it’s a hard no for me.

I’m anti-sock and anti-Mary Janes. The only times I wear socks are with sneakers (I wear the hidden versions, like Ondo) and in the winter with boots. The looks (lewks?) in the pictures, especially the last one, are too “little girl/parochial school uniform” for me. Maybe it’s years of seeing my girls in uniforms with bobby socks & MJ’s. I suspect the thought of wearing MJ’s alone would be triggering for them :joy:

I’m not a ballet flat girl either. For flats, I prefer the “mule” style so there’s nothing on my heel (and I can wear them without socks!) I am prone to getting blisters, no matter how high the quality of the shoe - so when I can, I look for styles that won’t rub on certain areas of my feet. Living down south means socks are optional for most of the year!

I love Mary Janes but socks with them are out of the question. I’m not a toddler.

Well they don’t have to be with Mary Janes! The crew-ish socks with sneakers is also a look!

I love the first look with a skort or skirt - or shorts. My vibe is “sporty”.. And I LOVE toddlers!

I can understand the hesitation though

I wear shoes with socks & slacks. Hard no with dresses—it’s just not me. I mainly wear dresses with sandals in Honolulu. I rarely travel with dresses—nearly always slacks, shoes with wool socks. I get cold, what can I say?!?!

The first look is OK (shorter sock though). I do that, actually. Apparently, the younger generation is ditching those no see socks for something longer like crew socks.

And I love toddlers with their cute frilly socks and Mary Janes. But that combo is just not me.

Yep that’s the type of sock .

Is wearing 2 different socks part of the look too? Seems the turtle socks are actually slightly different.

Not normally I don’t think!
