Dressing Young (2024)

That is interesting! Lol. For better or worse I love looking at all the Met outfits (maybe a break from all the other, less-fun news!).

They were overall very pretty this year, I thought!

I thought it was gorgeous and so creative. Wallpaper can be beautiful on it’s own, but in a dress!

See, they told us we’d be wearing paper clothing one day!

I think I’ve mentioned this before, but there is a FB account called, “Fashion Critical,” that I follow. The author is Australian, and she posts photos and writes hysterical captions about attire worn to awards shows and events. Her Meta Gala commentary is split into three different albums/posts. She also has an after party album. It’s a great way to see all the dresses.

NB - she does use some bad language

A physician with an X account does a funny thread for each Met Gala where he assigns the outfits to certain medical specialties, depending on how the outfit presents on the red carpet. The ones for OBGYN and Cardiologist are always funny!

I like the Tommy Bahama one and I could put a pair of swim shorts with that. I do need new bathing suits for this year since we are going to Bermuda and Miami in September.

We do a sailboat charter vacation every couple of years. Swimsuits are the daily dress for these trips. I have every swimsuit type and they all have pros and cons.
I find the long sleeve swim suits and pull over rash guard style tops hard to get off when they are wet. I don’t like getting out of the water and keeping on a wet suit.
I like this style over a bikini.

I really like that sun shirt.

LOL - Had a facebook ad for sheertex “Nude Tights” for summer. Sounds a bit like the unfashionable (but sometimes missed) item with a new name(?).

Now that snap crotch shirts and, I think, stirrup pants are back, perhaps Fashion is recognizing that we need some assistance with streamlining!

Had to share this video and I thought this thread might be appropriate and hit the right audience.

Was just annoyed this weekend by bra cups on a new bathing suit - if you’re putting bra cups in at least give me access to be able to adjust them! One tiny hole for both sides doesn’t cut it!

Where do you fall on bra cups - yay or nay??? Do you automatically pull them out? Any tricks to adjusting them? Do they really do any good - especially if they don’t stay open and in place?!!!

I do think the dress in the video is a GREAT idea for a Halloween costume!

Hate! If you’re going to put them in, make them a permanent part of the garment. Having to practically break my fingers to adjust them every time I put a sports bra or bathing suit top on is annoying. Not to mention having to match them with the appropriate top when they get separated in the laundry!

Now that I exercise exclusively at home, I’ve pulled them out of all my workout tops. My family will have to deal with the occasional headlight situation.

I’ve actually started searching for bras and bathing suits that have the cups built in. So much easier but they are hard to find.

Another fan of the permanently built-in pads. Love me those underoutfit bras!

I do like pads in my workout tops, but I’ve gotten savvy about pulling them out before throwing the tops in the wash, so I don’t have to do any crazy finger gymnastics trying to fish around to find, unfold and rearrange. Much easier to just fold them into a cigar and put them in before wearing.

I have a couple of swimsuit tops from LaBlanca that have built-in cups.

Hate the little suckers. I buy patterned swim suits by Prima Donna that don’t have those annoying things built in. The patterned fabric helps mask any headlights situations.

This just makes me chuckle because YES, I hate those things in sports bras. How can they get so folded and wedged in there in the wash? And then when they get old and you’re trying to pull them open, they break into multiple pieces! Sometimes I’m just lazy and wear them crumpled, two on one side, none in the other. So I’m imbalanced and lumpy. I’m over 50 years old. I doubt too many people are checking me out.

Between that and trying to pull on the sports bra over your already sweaty & sticky summertime body (before working out!) and getting it stuck in a little roll, and you have to dislocate your shoulder trying to pull it down… ugh! Just add them to the list of things men don’t have to deal with!

I’ve made the decision to only get sports bras that have a back clasp like a regular bra - it is literally painful the struggle to get some of them off over my head!

Different topic…shorts sets. Do you wear them? Any good recommendations?

This is a new concept, for me. I’ve always worn casual (denim, workout, or basic cotton twill) shorts for casual things, and a skirt or sundress if I wanted to up my game in the summer. But my instagram feed has been loaded with shorts sets, and I’m intrigued. I ordered this one the other day, it hasn’t arrived yet.

I think shorts/pant sets are a new hot thing. Even with the 20’s and 30’s women. Often time are linen/linen blend. Lots of influencers wearing them - or modeling them so you will buy them!

They aren’t for me but I do think they can look nice. Key is having them not be too slouchy (yours is not!) so they don’t look like loungewear for around the house vs. wearing out.
