Dressing Young 2025

Thought I’d start a new yearly post. So, I went to London this month. I normally don’t shop for myself much, a piece of jewelry or sweater. Sometimes not even that much.

However I went to Liberty and fell in love with this coat but it was huge on me in the body, lots of fabric even though it fit everywhere else. So I left. Then came back and the sales lady was there telling me how pretty it was but the fabric issue. So, she pulled the belt back like a trenchcoat and I bought it. 50% off. I had to check my carryon and carry the coat home. Haha. But I love it!

Gorgeous coat, @conmama

I love the color contrast with your hair. So different from the standard dark colors, and it will transition nicely into spring when we want lighter colors, but it is still chilly out.

I’m glad you started a new thread.

What are everyone’s thoughts on these new barrel-leg jeans that seem to be everywhere?

@Hoggirl - I don’t care for the look of the barrel jeans. Just don’t see that they flatter anyone.
I was (still am) a fan of skinny jeans though I have recently bought some wide leg jeans which are surprisingly flattering as well as comfortable. I also like the boot leg styles I am seeing. But I’ll pass on the barrel leg jeans.

Thanks! Thats what I thought, too! I used to just have a couple coats, then all of a sudden I started really enjoying outwear and have to quit.

I’m wearing it the first time today!

I’m not a fan of the barrel jeans, it reminds me too much of a bow legged cowboy in his chaps. I really like high waisted wide jeans though.

@conmama - I love the coat. Hope you had a great time in London.

I am also not a fan of the barrel jeans. I have skinny jeans, boot cut jeans and wide leg jeans all high waisted in various washes that I wear.

I got this denim dress at Gap on sale for $31 and was pleasantly surprised by how nice it looks on me. I can wear it with brown or black boots and the weight of the dress is great for our San Diego winters.

The coat is stunning! I love the light color, very elegant.

I’ll concur with everyone else and say I’m not a fan of barrel jeans. I love wide leg, bootcut, straight leg…I used to wear skinny, and I’m sure I will again at some point (just not into them now), but I don’t see ever getting behind the barrel trend.

I don’t like the barrel leg jeans at all. Here are my current favorite jeans - I get compliments from people of all ages when I wear them (and I have picked them up for $33-50 on sale): https://www.chicos.com/store/product/high+rise+wide+leg+jeans/570359576?color=5372&catId=cat11199320. My hairdresser is extremely hip, and he was gushing when I wore these jeans in a light wash - but I also have them in darker wash & in black and love them.

Nice denim dress… and great deal! And versatile too.

Not sure I’ve even noticed barrel jeans around, but based on the links posted I agree on the various comments. I enjoy this thread and watch for comments about styles that look good on short, pear shaped ladies.

Love everything posted here - coat, denim dress, jeans…I love jeans and have many pairs in various brands, styles and colors but barrel jeans are never going to be in my closet. I honestly don’t think they look good on anyone?? Maybe it’s just me.

A few fans at linked thread… but not many. I do like it that today’s women are opting for styles that suit their body and preferences rather than just buying things that are in fashion.

Barrel jeans are popular right now because lots of people do like them. Or like them for now. Plenty of other choices for everyone.

I have never been into a trendy jean. For me, the more simple a jean the better. NO embellishments on the back pockets. Favor a mid or light wash. Some stretch please. I like a cropped look weather straight or a slight flare. My current favs are mid rise, straight to fitted through the thighs with a little flair and loose hem. No other discoloring or fabric rips or embellishments of any kind. Oh and I prefer a lighter weight jean.

Hmmm, maybe I will wear my knee length black coat that I got from. my mom. It’s lovely but normally I settle for my omniheat ski jacket. I guess I’d have to wear it because it would take too much room if I pack it. I do love it but am not used to longer coats.

Thank you, and I love that dress. If I didn’t have clothes in my closet I haven’t even worn yet this winter, or only worn once, I’d buy it!

I love that denim dress, but I can just tell by looking it would be too short-waisted in me. Even though I am not tall. And too long. Because I am not tall! lol.

IMO, it looks too short-waisted on both the models featured. It is a problem I often encounter when dress shopping.

Skinny jeans are back in style!

Same for me on the barrel jeans, although some have a more exaggerated shape than others. Have to try them on, like any pair of jeans.

I tried these on, and they were actually ok in terms of the shape and look. Except…the material was just so heavy I sent them back.

I have always kept skinny jeans in my rotation of jeans that I wear. They look good on my body type and can be worn many different ways.

Thanks for starting a new year of Dressing Young. This is one of my favorite threads.
I’m a firm no on barrel jeans. I still have all my skinny jeans but for the moment I’m liking my wide legged jeans.

Personally, I can’t think of anyone the Barrell Jeans would look good on—heck they don’t even look great on the model and that means they’d look awful on nearly all other people.
