Dressing Young 2025

Shopping haul! So, a friend recently told me about a cute local boutique. Living in a college town, there are many of those, but they definitely cater to the younger crowd. This store did have some pieces that skewed a bit younger, but there were many cute and age-appropriate options as well. There are two owners, and one is probably late 40s and the other mid-50s. They were both hugely helpful. I basically went in and told them I needed an update and what my body shape challenges are (loooong torso/short legs being the primary one), what necklines I like, etc, and asked them to pull things. I spent way too much, but I left happy.

Only the navy tank and white T (the one I linked upthread from WHBM) were pieces I already owned.

The navy engineered striped set is from Liverpool as is the cream jacket with crochet trim. I had to go up two sizes in the Liverpool cropped pants. Very stretchy but pull on. It’s interesting to me because Dillards carries the Liverpool brand, but I must not like their buyer’s selections.

The wide-legged denim and dark khaki pants are Pistola brand. The white crops are Sanctuary. Silver blouse is by Greylin, and the two sweaters (no brainer at $49 each) are a brand called By Together.

Edit - all of the bottoms were extremely long-waisted (kind of hard to see in the pics)

I could only post five pics, but I also got this cute T-shirt for Mother’s Day! Denim crops are from WHBM a couple of seasons ago

The tide pens are very helpful in keeping white things white as well. We once washed one of D’s new white tops at a washer/dryer at a hotel and it emerged totally covered in spots. The front desk clerk gave me several tide pens to try to get the spots off and they were all successfully removed. He was very nice and apologetic. We figured the spots was from someone who had previously use the washer/dryer.

I definitely wanted to try a couple of the wide-legged crops that seem to be so popular right now.

I would have liked to have found a couple more summer weight jackets or cardigans as I tend to get cold in restaurants. I also like the look of a third piece.

Mostly I said I really didn’t know how to dress myself anymore - ha ha. I tend to prefer dressy clothes but have nowhere to wear them. I don’t work, but I do like structured, tailored clothing. Not tight clothing, but clothing with some shape.

BTW, that SNL video was hysterical. My mil has a good friend (not in her 30s - in her 70s) who dresses just like that! She is a petite person, and I feel like her clothes just swallow her. So shapeless! And, she NEVER wears color - she’s always in the bummer rainbow pallette.

Mostly I told them that I wanted some cute, updated items for going out to lunch and casual dinners with the hubby. Our church is pretty casual, too.

@Hoggirl I love the clothes! So pretty and modern.

I especially love the brown pistola pants. I found them at Anthro, the inseam is a bit long for me but I might order them to see. I think you might be 5’5”?

The sales people did a great job steering you towards great pieces!

If anyone wants to order from Anthropologie, there’s an influencer sale right now. 20% off $100+. Lots of different influencer codes.

CASSIE20 is HiSugarplum’s code, there are a bunch of other ones.

I would like the blouse that you and maybe another person on here got, but in the sky color. Sold out in most sizes though - darn!

Great choices and you look amazing in all of it. You know how to strike a pose, too!

Thank you!

I am 5’4”, but my legs are not long. These are quite long in the stride, which I personally like and need. They are so comfy!

I think I would likely always wear at least a low heel with them as they are probably hitting lower on my leg than they should.

I wore my green Danskin shoes mentioned above to a MeetUp Happy Hour and actually got complimented on them - someone thought they were very cute. I decided to embrace the “sneakers are stylish” lifestyle and apparently it’s a success.

Also very happy with the cargo drawstring capris I found recently at TJ Maxx.

I received these shoes today and wore them straight out of the box to the mall (returning some mis-fits). So comfy!! And I got a genuine compliment from another shopper!

You look fantastic! Those sales gals did a terrific job, but they couldn’t have done it if you didn’t already have style!

You can take those pants into fall and pair with a boot or heel for a dressier look, too.

Super cute? Any arch support?

You know how we like those Vionic sandals? (Not dressing young I know). I just save mine for traveling because I can walk miles in them every day.

Vionic just came out with these, which I think look a bit more updated and pretty with a dress during the day. Just not sure if I want to spend the money on something so similar. Plus, no Velcro on back heel.

@Hoggirl , what a great haul! It all looks great on you, and you got a nice mix of looks too. Especially love the engineer stripe outfit. Really impressed too with the fit - right off the rack. What a great find of a store!

Your choices look really good on you. I too have a long body and short for my height legs. A refresh of your clothes every now and then is totally worth the price if you love the stuff you get.
I have only tried a “personal shopper” once that I remember, at Nordstrom, but she wasn’t very helpful - she just brought me brands I told her I already liked, nothing new. It’s great that this person actually helped.
