I’m not the best at light packing, but I really tried on our trip to Italy in October ‘23. I packed four pairs of shoes: Brooks sneakers for heavy walking days, more stylish but still comfy white sneakers that were comfortable for a good amount of walking, Chelsea boots (I probably should have skipped these, but I did enjoy wearing them a few times ), and a low heeled gold slide sandal for going out to dinner - still comfortable for walking to and from restaurants and the went with all my dresses/skirts.
Saw these Valentino “inspired” pumps on Amazon and thought about @conmama’s dress! I think they might work with the dress. Reviews say the toebox is roomy.
Good to know about the long arms. Both of my daughters and I need things with long arms. We can’t wear many items because they are too short in the arms!
I have a pair of the real deal Rockstud strappy sandals and love them! Very sturdy and comfortable (likely because the foot is caged in like in a ballroom dancing shoe). Wore them this summer on dressier occasions! Fall is not far, so I was curious about the closed toe versions, came across this Amazon find, and thought of your dress. I am going to buy a pair and see if they are as good as the reviews say.
I have a functional question for my fashion friends If you are adding on a snap, do you sew it on like I used to do decades ago? Or do you use some kind of fabric glue? (My project this weekend will involve pocket closure on shorts, but sometime I could use the trick on a deep neckline of shirt or dress instead of safety pin.)
Definitely sew on. I don’t think any glue would be stronger than that. Plus, if you don’t like the placement of the closure, changing it is much easier with sewn on options.
Woohoo! My fake Valentinos from Amazon have arrived, and I’m impressed. They actually were packaged in a shoebox (proudly displaying “Made in China” on the top ), each wrapped in a fabric dust bag. The footbed is nicely padded, and the fake leather uppers are stretchy and seem comfortable. The studs are shiny but not cheap looking; they are more like rose gold than yellow gold colored. Not bad at all! The maker even included a little “foot care” thing to add extra cushion if needed.
They are very roomy! I have narrow heels but wider towards the toes feet, and the fit was just right for my duck feet. The fake patent leather front is not stiff and has some stretch. The Amazon reviews say similar things.
I wear size 40 European (which can be interpreted as size 9-10 US) and ordered size 9. It was a good guess because they fit perfectly.
Not sure how durable the shoes are, but for $60, I would not cry if they break after a few wears.
I got the beige because it was a Prime option, but red ones looked good!
I generally avoid pointy toe shoes, but occasionally I come across some I really like. One trick I do with closed toe pointy toe shoes is this: get them a half a size to a full size bigger and stuff some wadded tissue paper in the tip of the toe box. That way, the foot doesn’t slide forward pinching the toes, and the shoe feels roomier. I heard some celebrity talking about doing that and went “a-ha!” Most of the time, it works well. These shoes don’t feel like they need any tricks!
This doesn’t really solve the snap issue, but one of the fashion people I follow on instagram has mentioned this tool quite a bit and she’s shown how she uses it. She can just use it on the go and the stiches rip out easily if you want to change things up. She uses it to help with deep necklines and I’ve also seen her use it when she is wearing a plain button down shirt that is pretty basic but she wants the collar to open up more to show a statement necklace. The she just puts a stitch in each side of the collar to make it a little more open. This particular one has some negative reviews but there are a bunch of other options on Amazon. I haven’t tried it yet, but have been temped.
