Dressing Young 2025

Agree with only bringing clothes you love and shoes that are super comfortable. I found that in Italy I wore my Merrell hiking shoes every day and my comfortable stretch tan slacks frequently. No need for anything fancy and I fit right in (it seemed to me, lol). Enjoy!!!

Thanks for mentioning that. We have an upcoming Oct London trip, and I’m thinking of bringing my low/waterproof Merrell Moab hiking boots. Mainly I want them for Bronco game day, but it seems like I could wear them for sighteeing too.

I wore my Moab’s all over London. I didn’t feel out of place. Lots of Europeans and Australians were also wearing low hiking boots.

Another person who wore her Merrell hiking shoes all over Europe

I bought a pair of waterproof Brooks ghost so I don’t think I need another pair. The Merrell’s are in rough shape!

My advice is to either wear waterproof boots/sneakers (I have a pair of Vessi) or take 2 pair of comfortable walking footwear. It was very rainy on one of our trips and that saved me.

You’re at a hard time as you could encounter a wide range of temps. I’ve found the Athleta Brooklyn pant to be versatile in both spring and fall. I also have a pair of older Vuori stretch pants that were versatile. My last two trips I ended up wearing my Hoka Solimar almost everyday.

I loved having my Vuori joggers for travel days when we were in Italy but didn’t wear them on sightseeing days. Even though I want to be comfortable (and also have flat feet so the shoes are important) I definitely wanted to like the outfits and have cute things to wear for photos. It’s also nice to have pieces you can mix and match to make different outfits as well as some cardigans. I wish I was going somewhere fun!

If I have room in my bag, I pack my Vuori joggers to wear for down time at the hotel. Unlike pajamas, I can wear them if I just need to make a coffee run.

I usually throw in a pair of black lululemon leggings for this purpose. Can also use them at the gym, for a hike, etc. And they take up virtually no room.

Starting in Vienna, then moving west through the Wachau Valley to Salzburg, Munich, Alsace, Burgundy, Lyon, Provence (kids and their partners joining us for 2 weeks), ending in Paris.

Dressing for the season, not the weather, has been my experience as well. The forecast is for 75° our first full day there, so I’ve got to have something that I can be cool in during the day & then add layers for evening.

I laid everything out today. Two marino sweaters, 4 lightweight long or short sleeved shirts two pairs of pants, a skirt, Vuori joggers and t-shirt for lounging, swimsuit, two silk scarves.

I’d like to add something in a different color, and maybe add a button-down shirt and a cardigan. I’ll have a pair of jeans along, too

Wearing what I love is a really good idea. The problem is that I really don’t love my clothes at the moment. The wool jersey pants fit, but the b&w ones are a bit big on me. Two pairs I was considering are way too big, so they’re in the donation box. Too many make-do items.

All I see is old and boring haha.

That looks like a good travel capsule to me.

My navy ones always come with me. They are worn on the plane

I agree!

I tend to keep a tight color palette when I’m traveling so I can more easily mix and match so I don’t think adding an extra color is necessary.

Any time to do some shopping so you have another pair of pants that you feel great in?

How about a top in a peach/red/coral/mauve (whichever looks best on you) That will be something different to coordinate with your pants and other items for a set of different looks.

I hit up the local mall and managed to find a lightweight merino cardigan in gray and a pale blue tank for layering. I’ll also check my scarf collection to see if there’s another one that will work to add some more variety.

The black & white pants will stay. I looked (again!) at some Vuori miles pants, but the potential for rustling as I walk is a negative. Another issue is I need, at most, a 26” inseam. Nordstrom’s petite selection is pathetic these days, and JJill didn’t have anything that jumped out at me. So, the belt will do its job.

I’m sure I’ll be doing some shopping on this trip.

Looks like bubble skirts are making a comeback! Saw a bunch of cute mini bubble skirts on the racks of BP department at our Nordstrom recently. And a bubble skirt I would have liked to have is sold out! So much for waiting for 70% off

So did you decide to get a bubble skirt? (new term to me, thanks for the link)

The skirt was sold out everywhere!!! I scraped up my Bloomies rewards and got the ALC bubble dress!

Did someone on here say they have the Quince cotton sweater below:

If so, how is the fit? Is it roomy or tight? I’m trying to figure out what size to order.
