Dressing Young 2025

I know my waist is squishy these days

I’ve ordered a few (maybe many :woman_shrugging:) pairs of pants. So many of them fit everywhere but are a touch tight in the waist.

Pretty annoying to have something fit everywhere but cut into you a tiny bit. I can’t decide if they are going to loosen up or be super uncomfortable

I also don’t want to wear only elastic waist pants or jeans. I don’t have this problem that much with jeans. No idea why

This is so relatable. I wonder if jeans are different because you choose both a rise and a size. As I have gotten older, I have gotten even straighter (as in less of a difference between waist and hips) - if that was possible.! Mid-rise styles, which seem to be mostly jeans, sit at a place where there is less squishy stuff. Also, most denim has at least a little give/stretch, which isn’t always the case for other pants fabrics. My pants that aren’t technically jeans that fit well are from brands that make jeans (i.e., Frame) , so are often cut in a similar way.

:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: overheard a debate amongst some ladies in their fifties:

Are slacks an old person’s clothing item?

Are slacks business wear without pockets? Do sneakers go with slacks ?

Do young ladies wear slacks?

The jeans I ordered are Paige Anessa, which they make the same pants in denim

I found the same issue with the Colette from Anthropologie. The jeans are good, the magic fabric pants were not. I thought I was good ordering a denim style in a twill

The issue is that I’m trying to find some options for a fall cruise. No denim in the dining room, I wanted to find some pants that weren’t athletic wear.

I even found this issue with Talbots pants. Too tight in the waist even when I sized up. Talbots, who do they think are their customers?

My young person wears jeans and athletic pants. Or dresses.

Works in an industrial setting so jeans and steel toed shoes

Haven’t hear the word slacks in many years. Pants or jeans are the terms I hear.

FWIW the cruise we were on this summer also had a no jeans rule for dinner but dark washed jeans with a nice top and shoes were prevalent. The only thing that was a hard no were baseball caps at dinner.

The word “slacks” rings old lady to me! Unless it’s regional or something.

What about black denim pants with slightly flared leg? Like these ones?

Agree! “Pants” or more formally “trousers” are not “old lady.”

I had those in my basket. Ended up buying a very similar pair when I actually went to a Chico’s (I know, I feel so old lol) and was able to try on a bunch of pants. Also had a very good sales associate in the store who was very helpful

I’ve been wanting to find a pair of green wide leg pants to wear with the approximately 1000 black shirts and sweaters I own. I know very specific but they work with a bunch of other things in my closet.

I tried on the Paige pants again. I think the waist band is going to loosen up and be comfortable. They are very cute. I’ll wear them around the house some more

I wish I could make that a rule in every restaurant!

I asked my daughter what pants she had on the last time I saw her thinking they might be good for you since we seem to have similar taste. They were the Paige Anessa in chocolate brown. Funny that that is what you ordered.

I have a pair of olive green pants from Apiece Apart - high waist, wide leg, heavy cotton twill - that I bought just to have an alternative to jeans. They are constantly in play They go with everything! The owner of a shop I like talked me i to them. So glad I didn’t resist!

I have bought these pants in black, navy, tweed and checked. I really like them and get compliments on them. You can wear with a belt or without or even remove the belt loops. They were $4 off.

lol, apparently I bought them last year and returned them. I have no recollection but they must not have fit.

@mom60 thank you, that was a very nice comment. I’ve been feeling frumpy lately so to have someone complimenting me on my taste was a boost to my ego!

This gaining weight with my shape changing hasn’t been much fun!

@mom60 i also love your taste as its similar to mine

Anyone else having problems posting? Or editing posts? It’s been weird

Has anyone ordered from Natural Life?

I was out to dinner with someone who had a dress from there. It was a cute casual dress. Might be nice for this upcoming cruise.

I’ve not heard of them, but the clothes look pretty. Reminds me a bit of the Sundance catalog (now out of business), but more affordable.
