I went into Anthro two weeks ago for the first time in ages and was really disappointed. Not my style.
I’m more into comfort and ease of care than dressing young, I guess. I try not to look dowdy, but the clothes I buy have to be low maintenance (no dry cleaning, for example). I’ve found some very stylish slacks at LLBean, for example. Just plain black and navy. They go with a lot.
I don’t shop at places like Chicos and Talbots because I think their stuff is old looking.
I also am not a fan of online ordering because I just hate boxing things up to return.
Since I feel this is a no judgement zone, I’d rather not say which brands are better than others in dressing young.
I buy brands because they offer a wide range of sizes and can usually find things that work for me.
Of course all this talk made me take a peak at Anthro
I love a sneaker mule. Do you think these sneakers say Florida grandma?
No offense to those grandmas in Florida!

There are these but a fur lined mule is a better fit for my kinda narrow foot

I got pants there that are pull on, elastic waist. The crop size looks full on me. They were mentioned in a
no for petites size.
FWIW, I see college kids wearing those sneakers in the first link on the campus near my house every day! I don’t think black sneakers are as “in” with the young crowd these days.
The Gola’s are very on trend. Not Florida grandma, IMO.
One thing that I kindof like these days is that there are so many different influencers and styles … there are a variety of looks at all ages. For example, easier now these days to pick a dress length that looks good on our body rather than raising and lowering hemlines per style trends. I don’t buy many new clothes in retirement, but I do have fun following this thread ![]()
Very much agree with this. People of all budgets and lifestyles and desires deserve to look and feel good and even “young” which I think what we mean is not dowdy or sloppy and that you put a little thought into what you are wearing and looked in the mirror! And not like an 18 year old. ![]()
Im going out of town tomorrow so was checking to see if there is an Evereve in the town I’m visiting. There is though don’t know that we will get there. But I chuckled a little at this tagline on their description:
“Retail chain stocking stylish denim, casualwear & occasion dresses, curated with mothers in mind.”
I think Golas ARE a hot brand and with the not senior crowd. I think they are fine!
I personally like the looks of the 2nd one better - but I don’t do metallics at all.
I like the idea of using shoes to feel fashionable (and for me, comfort also high priority). They actually do wear out over time and need replacement. It’s nice to see many folks, even the younger generation, lamenting the waste of “fast fashion” and considering quality long-term wardrobe staples.
I agree - and that seems to be a complaint among a few of the Millennial-aged fashion content creators that I follow, with regard to the styles that Anthropologie is putting out lately - that it will be future land fill. I’ve made a conscious effort over the past several years to say “no” to some of the retail brands that I feel are not as high quality (maybe they were at one time), in favor of spending more for quality pieces in non-trendy styles that I can wear for years. The same goes for shoes, but that’s a bit harder for me due to needing shoes that won’t aggravate my Plantar’s, while not wanting to wear ugly medical-grade shoes ![]()
I also agree that “dressing young” to me is less about the desire to shop in the Junior’s Department and more about wanting to avoid looking “dowdy” or “sloppy”
I stopped very quickly in an Anthropologie and JCrew Factory (I don’t in person shop much but they were right near the bagel place I WAS shopping!
![]()
JCrew Factory has a lot of things that I like. Their current stock seemed quite nice and almost a little Anthropologie-ish. What is always crazy to me is the JCF original price tags. IMO, CRAZY prices. Would never pay them! Of course they do have a lot of 40% and such but when it starts so high even 40% feels like not enough.
I actually liked a few Anthropologie tops that I saw. I’m not in the market to buy but because of this thread thought I’d do a run through - and also see if it happened to be a “extra 50% off weekend” on clearance - it wasn’t!
Your outfits look very cute! Hope it’s a fun trip. I’m getting ready to do a massive clothes try on this weekend to plan some outfits for an upcoming trip (and hopefully to do some purging as well). I leave for Paris and then Morocco in two weeks and am really hoping for weather in the 60’s in Paris.![]()
I believe the dress I showed picture of above will be “the dress” to wear to the garden party cocktail wedding
These were the other options I considered
And
This one just feels more like “me” and my husband likes it best too
I love the blue in the one you chose. It just pops a bit more for spring/summer.
Not a huge metallic fan either but the shearling mules only come in that metallic color unfortunately
I did order them, certain influencers have a 20% off promo code which is usually only offered 2x a year.
I can send them back if I don’t care for them
Checking for clarity. So if it’s a vendor we think is good, we can mention it here, but we should not mention ones we don’t feel fit this thread?
I love the high neckline! You will look wonderful!
Really pretty, and perfect for the event you described.
I’m confused by what you are saying. ![]()
