Dressing Young 2026

Alas, I don’t go to church and we stopped subscribing to the opera. We do go to community theater and I DO see folks dressing up for that, so maybe there’s a place I could wear some of the lovely outfits or out to a nice restaurant. I do have a nice MOG dress from 2023 and just bought a very dear dark green velvet dress (am attending 3 October weddings this year, after none in 2024 and 2025). I do try to buy outfits I can mix and match and wear again. D does as well.

I suspect another nephew will be proposing soon, as he has been dating the same woman for several years now and she’s made several trips to HI with him and they’ve been openly talking about marriage and weddings.

Ask and you shall receive. I will say that I don’t go out of the house dressed like this, but if I don’t have to be anywhere, this is what I look like at home. Sans make-up as well. Poor dh. Probably feels like a bait-and-switch from our dating days.

I will also add that one reason I don’t dress up more (even when we go out) is that dh is not into clothing/looking stylish. I should note that he is never inappropriately dressed when the occasion calls for it, but he’s just not a spiffy dresser. I do wish he took more of an interest, but his lack of style and inability to dance are his only shortfalls, so I don’t complain.

For our weekly Sunday Fundays of going out to a brewery and then to a casual dinner spot, his go-to is shorts and some kind of race or Razorback t-shirt. I don’t want to be overdressed by comparison.

You look how I generally dress for daily outings If I’m going out for a meal or event I will make more of an effort, but makeup is a VERY rare event.

I’ve never rented clothes except the men’s tuxes for our wedding eons ago. I don’t believe I will start.

I guess we will have to go out more and dress up to air out our “special clothes” that we don’t wear nearly often enough. Haha! Maybe we can have a ladies night out and all wear our MOG/MOB dresses or go out to tea in those lovely outfits.

Whereas that would be a work outfit for me! I don’t usually wear a t-shirt with writing on it. They are usually just plain, but sometimes I do, especially on a Friday. I can go years - even 10 - without ever putting on a dress. We won’t talk about what I wear to Walmart…

My H always wears camo cargo shorts with a graphic tee - usually comic related, band related, or just weird/funny related. This has been his attire for the 34 years we’ve been together. In his life, he’s probably owned 5 ties. That may be overestimating.

I admired the attire of a friend’s husband for years before I admitted to her that I wished my husband would dress the same. Her answer was that she buys all of his clothes! I now do the same and he likes it! I also suspect my husband is slightly color blind, and he is happy to take my suggestions.

I know my H is colorblind–he has a hard time telling blue from green and yellow from pink! I’m not sure how his colorblindness is classified. Fortunately, in HI, aloha shirts and polo shirts are suitable for most occasions and he gets cold so he invariably wears long pants to avoid being cold. He always looks OK.

Haha I think about this too. I always dressed cute when dating.

Now the mornings find me in sweats, glasses, with a Pebbles Flintstone pony-tail on the top of my head (makes comb-out great tho ).

Oh well! Still dress up for our weekend outings and am dressed half-cute for virtual work :joy:

Hy husband is a scientist and he wore shorts and t-shirts to work for many years. Once he turned about 50 he decided he should maybe wear pants instead of shorts, and maybe he started wearing button down/henley type shirts, but no dressing up for him to go to work.

ETA - bc I just read another post… when we had our first date he went home from work to change into something nicer for our date :).

That is very much a running errands sort of outfit for me. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

This summer I’m finding myself reaching for skorts paired with the proverbial nice top or Uniqlo tee, the dresses I bought in Hawaii, or a longer skirt most of the time. My husband has a couple of pairs of long pants, chino-esq, that he’ll wear out, but spends most of his days in various shorts and polos, with a quarter zip if needed. He is on Zepbound and is losing weight, but he carries his weight in his belly and dresses accordingly. He dressed nicely for work, but retirement turned him very casual.

LOL… not the case for me and hubby. We met in college, an unpretentious techie school in a small town where almost everybody on campus was casual and mellow. He knew I was a minimal makeup kind of gal. Admittedly he has a better fashion/color eye than me, so he sometimes gets help pick outfits. Last week we worked together to decide on a good hem length for a nice pair of pants that have always been a bit too long.

We also met in college so he knew what he was getting. We are both pretty casual everyday dressers. My husband lives in shorts and tshirts. Many of the t shirts have been bought at Costco. I have a co volunteer who I know he buys most of his shirts at Costco because my husband has the same ones. The kids will get him new shirts from the surf shop which he wouldn’t buy for themself. He has wedding appropriate attire but as a man can wear the same to every wedding. I almost always buy something new for a wedding.

Speaking dressing for the life I wish I had… I find myself slobbering over a few fun resort dresses because I picture myself wearing them at a fancy beachfront hotel. We do vacation in Hawaii often, but most of the time I end up wearing Tommy Bahama or Tori Richard tech fabric dresses or shorts/tees. Recently, I’ve upgraded my tees to Doen and Farm Rio tops… and shorts to skorts.

Someone please stop me from buying that Kivari dress that just went on sale

On the one hand, it’s do I need it? On the other hand, it’s if not now, when? I’m sure you’ll strike the right balance.

Well, the Kivari dress is on the way to my house.

That is a beautiful dress. It can be casual or dressed up depending on footwear.

It’s very attractive and looks like it could be worn a lot in warm weather or Hawaii.

Thank you! Researching airfares now.

I “met” a Kivari denim dress a while ago at a Napa boutique. It was sold out in my size but I was able to track it down on the manufacturer’s website. It is an Australian brand, so they know beach wear! It was fun to get a parcel shipped via the Australian Post Office, but now they’ve established a US office.

Thanks! I fell line, hook, and sinker for the color as pictured so hope the true color is pictured. If it doesn’t fit, I’m sure one of our young ladies will gladly adopt it.

Love that dress. Hard to find maxis that are casual but not floofy.
