Our Talbots closed last year. I don’t shop there because I find the fashion leans towards a more mature aged woman. The funny thing is I used to shop there when I was in my 40’s.
Exactly the same here - short legs (26” inseam), long waist, 5’4”.
With my loooong waist, finding dresses that fit properly is almost worse than finding pants. The waistline in petites is usually in the wrong place. I need the measurements from neckline to waist and neckline to hem, as well as sleeve length. If I try things on in the store, I can usually check, but online is a crapshoot.
We are body twins!
And, it’s why short dresses often hit me too short on my legs for my comfort. Yet, the waist is too high!
My BFF from high school is perfectly proportioned and slim. Everything fits her perfectly off the rack. She is 5’8” tall. Nothing ever has to be hemmed, everything hits her at the smallest part of her waist.
I shopped there in my 30s. I also shopped at Chico’s, which seems like it’s for “old people” in my 30s too.
I don’t buy much from Talbots now that I’m not working, but I still go in there a couple of times a year at least.
I am 5’8” or so, but I have a long torso and short legs. I have friends inches shorter than I am that ride the same sized bike, and can wear the same pants inseam. It’s hard for me to find a dress with a “waist” that actually fits on my waist.
We have a Talbots and I get a fair amount of pants there because they fit me well. A lot of their clothes do seem kind of stuffy but I got a few summer tops there recently and my D complimented me on one as did my young eyebrow specialist at the salon I go to ![]()
I received a postcard today from Anatomie *https://anatomie.com/collections/womens-luxury-travel-clothing-view-all-products
It’s too pricey for me (especially for mail order uncertainty), but it looks like nice stuff. 15% off code is APR-px7XAGF
Similar to Chico’s, I used to shop at J.Jill in my 30’s (even had the store CC
) - now it feels too dated. I guess I got my fill in my 30’s?
I’ve never been a Talbots, Loft, Ann Taylor, WHBM shopper. I don’t know why - I’ve seen things I’ve liked on other people; I’ve just never gravitated to those stores. In my city, Talbots has always been a stand-alone store, so I’d have to intentionally go there vs. just wandering in at a mall (which I stopped going to years ago as well unless I’m running in for a pre-paid pick up at Nordies).
Since SteinMart closed (boo!), Talbots is my go-to (when I buy clothes, which is very rarely now in retirement). Classic, well-made clothing never goes out of style the way trendy fashion does. Throughout my adult/business life, Talbots has always been in my mix. I’m petite, and their clothes fit me perfectly without tailoring which is why I keep going back. I like a crisp, clean-line, pulled-together look, but I do agree that some of their inventory leans almost comically preppy/stuffy=old. I can easily shop around that.
The other thing about Talbots is some of their clothes, especially dresses, “scream” Talbots. Not like Lily Pulitzer, but that idea.
I probably already said this, but they were a go to for work pants and nice tees when I was working.
@Colorado_mom - I like the look of their clothes, but more than I am willing to spend.
I agree if you buy the Talbot-y items, but you won’t catch me in those embroidered sailboat shorts. My wardrobe is mostly well-made mix-and-match solids/stripes that last for years. I’m obviously not a clothes horse, so no one should take any fashion advice from me.
Also, given the pervasiveness of fast fashion and what seems to pass for trendy these days, I’m surprised Talbot’s has survived. There are hardly any customers in the store when I shop which is one of the things I love, but it surprises me that they do enough business to survive.
I also buy from Talbots. Because it’s classic, and has a large selection of petites.
My local store is busy.
I’ve also bought a few things recently from Chico’s.
I guess I’m old now ![]()
Had to come into the office today for a few hours. Dressed super casual as few people will be in today. These new Rothy’s I got are so cute and comfortable!
I think the Talbots stuff looks nicely put together, but it NEVER fits me. Otoh, I have relatives and friends who are petite and who love the store.
I know we talked previously about bathing suits on this thread. And while I don’t favor buying clothing off Amazon, I do like the Cupshe brand for suits - I think I have 3 of them and they are at least a few years old and still great and they get quite a bit of use.
Bathing suits are something that can can def categorize into “too young” or “too old” looking. I wanted one suit that did not scream “old lady” but that provided more coverage for when we have guests at our pool or for beach time when I want more coverage for long walks.
I ordered this one during Prime Days so paid in the $30’s. I love it! The print is sort of a modern fun print to me, the styling is flattering. I am dark complected and even with sunscreen have a pretty deep tan. I think it’s a good addition to my swimsuit collection - and it comes in MANY patterns: CUPSHE Women’s One Piece Swimsuit Bathing Suit Scoop Neck Swimdress Wide Straps Tie Knot Swim Skirt https://a.co/d/0gawACA7
@showmom858 I have the same pair and color! We have 2 stores locally, and easy to buy and return. When they didn’t have the size and color of a pair of sneakers I wanted in stock, they ordered and shipped to me.
I will say, I have a few pair of Rothy’s, and they are different sizes, so I prefer to go in store and try on to avoid the shipping back and forth.
My white sneakers were worn during Mardi Gras and were black and nasty; came out of the wash looking brand new!
@snowball I also have a local store so I can try them on. I saw that the clogs I want are an additional 20% off, but people said that they run large. I’m going to go by the store tomorrow and try them on to see what size fits.
I love the way all of their shoes wash up so well. I wear mine without socks and after washing they are like new.
@abasket I had not heard of this brand, but I just checked the website and they have some cute styles that I would wear. And they have support for those of us who need it
.
I don’t wear swimsuits often so I don’t buy often. But next time I do I will consider this brand.
@showmom858 - those are super cute! I love all my Rothys and find them very comfortable. We have a store near me and I recently bought some sandals.
