Dressing Young 2026

They are by no means high end - but I do wear mine and they get exposed to sun and lake and chlorine- a lot! And I have not rid of one for being “worn out”. It is nice weight fabric, true to size, adjustable straps and removable pads. I like having a selection for tan lines and for different occasions!

I recently started doing the cold plunge at our club. It’s in the communal area so a suit is required. I needed on that was easy on - easy off and found this one. Turns out it has become my go to swim suit. Got it in a couple of different colors. I don’t expect it to las a super long time but for the price it seems worth it……https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D5BGQVSG?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_3&th=1&psc=1

I have one of these suits. I bought it for kayaking and the zipper broke the first summer :frowning:

I bought a pair of pants by Anatomie at Nordstrom, and they became my favorite travel pants! So lightweight, washable, quick drying, comfortable, and look good. They weigh a couple of ounces and pack into a tiny roll. I liked them so much I bought another style pants. Love them, too.

ETA: these are the pants I really liked; I sized up to L so they would be less fitted which was apparently the intent. I have to take the waist in at some point if I want to ditch the belt, but for now the belt works fine.

And this is the other pair of Anatomie pants I bought

That is the type of item that is worth a splurge. Nice that you could try them on at the store.

I actually bought them at Nordstrom online, but Nordstrom’s returns are so easy because there is a physical store not far away.

I tried a few different brands…and yes..one of the other ones had a zipper that broke the first time I used it…luckily it was in the privacy of my own bedroom.. The ones from this brand…so far…have good zippers.

@Colorado_mom I love all that Anatomie stuff! Looks elegant, fitted, stylish. So cool that you got and enjoyed the pants, @BunsenBurner.

Too highly priced for me but great looks.

The dress came, and it’s just above my knee so plenty long.
I think it’s a keeper.

Ha ha you influenced my to buy these pants. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: Not sure if you ended up getting them, but they don’t have much bulk. Pretty comfortable and they go with a lot of tops I already have!

I didn’t! We are moving soon, and I decided to wait. I have enough clothing to move as it is! :joy:

Glad you liked them! What color did you choose?

General question- are jean shorts ‘too young’?

I’ve been coveting a distressed pair for a few years but my daughter just gave me a ‘no go’ lol. I know younger people can wear ‘messy’ outfits and look adorable but when older it can read ‘unkempt’:laughing:

Inspo:

Pair I tried that daughter vetoed (:joy:)

IMO, the outfit in the photo looks fine on you! You have the body to rock it! The shorts are not really too ripped, just what they call “raw hem.”

Frankly, your daughter is wrong. Those shorts look great on you!

Go for it! Those jean shorts are super cute and you look amazing in them!

Thank you! I really did like them but returned. I might go back and grab them. Figure I can dress them up with sandals and black shirt if want to avoid being too scruffy lol.

Btw - spent hours before a recent trip trying to find some casual clothes that fit but were not super expensive (just ‘no’ to. $130 sweatshirt from Lululemon). Oddly enough - Boscov’s junior dept! Got great fitting leggings, matching little jackets, flowy pants, and cute jeans for about $15-$20 each. The shorts were on the line with being ‘maybe too youthful’ tho :joy:

I also think you should get them if you like them.

FWIW, pretty sure my D would tell me no too, but because of the hem length, not because of the distressing or jean/casual look.

You look like you could be your daughter in those shorts (in the best way) and they don’t look overly distressed - it’s an enthusiastic YES from me!

Overly ripped denim on any age is a NO from me. I don’t mind a small amount of distressing or a raw edge (although I pass on denim that has any holes or rips) but I’ve seen too many women (mostly on the young side) with absolutely shredded denim and I wonder how they get in and out of them and they wash them (I guess they don’t?)

It’s an enthusiastic, “yes,” from me! I think they look great on you.

Longer looser shorts are trending (and often are so unflattering!), but those look terrific on you. They aren’t so distressed either.

I probably would not try to “dress them up” too much because they are such a summery casual look. They look great with that top. Add sneakers or sandals and you look fabulous.
