Dressing Young (Part 1)

I am wearing this dress to a wedding. What color jewelry (earrings, necklace and bracelet) would go with it…silver or gold? In case for some reason the color doesn’t show, it is a dark chocolate brown. My shoes are in the same color.

http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/3064532/0~2376776~2374327~6005464~6005515~6005555?mediumthumbnail=Y&origin=category&searchtype=&pbo=6005555&P=2

LOVE the dress!

Traditionally one would wear gold with brown, but you should use whatever works best with your skintone and the dress. I’m a jewelry minimalist, so if you have some fabulous larger earrings I don’t think you necessarily need a necklace, and if you have a larger necklace, very simple earrings would do. But YMMV. (I also love the dress!)

Stunning! I just came from Nordstrom where they had inexpensive but very pretty long copper chains that would like nice with dark brown.

I have a necklace that is deep red glass beads with a gold swirly in each that I got in Venice that I want to wear with your dress! Seriously, if you can find something in a scarlet red without too much trouble, I think that would be great for a late summer wedding. (Or does it only feel like late summer here in Texas?)

Thanks so much everyone for the compliments on the dress…the red beads are an interesting possibility missypie…I will look out for something different like that. I have olive skin and like both gold and silver jewelry…just not sure what will make the right impact…nothing that I have right now anyway. Booklady…that’s another idea…copper something sounds good too.

NOT silver. I like Missypie’s necklace description. That would be pretty, or gold.

Trying to avoid Nordstrom. I might order several items online to avoid impulse purchasing. D16 was sadly disapointed we were not hitting the mall. She showed me several items she wanted including a leather jacket and the leather boots with the laces up the front. Not happening!
Agree pretty dress that would look great with Missypie’s necklace. Especially with olive skin.

love you all for making me think!I can make a go of this…and I will!

justforthis, that is a very lovely dress! I like missypie’s suggestion, and I also think turquoise jewelry (real or fake) will work great with the brown color of your dress and your olive skin. It can be a simple chain of beads like this one:

[Macy*s - Site Governor](http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=365578&PseudoCat=se-xx-xx-xx.esn_results)

or a fancier arrangement, like this one:

[kate spade-turquoise necklace*](http://www.neimanmarcus.com/store/catalog/prod.jhtml?itemId=prod102710138&parentId=cat9630732&masterId=cat21960731&index=144&cmCat=cat000000cat2830732cat4870731cat21960731cat9630732)

A “statement” necklace will go well with smaller earrings (simple studs) and/or a simple bangle.

^That’s funny I’d been thinking turquoise too. I have a great necklace from somewhere in the middle east where the turquoises are set in gold instead of silver that would look great with this dress. I also really like the idea of copper. I recently got a necklace with copper beads and jade colored glass that would look great.

I like the champagne colored pearls at Nordstrom. They are a rich hue and can be tripled, they are so long. On sale right now for $36. (I bought some)

Okay, I did hit the Anniversary Sale. I did not go to the downtown (flagship) Nordy’s on Friday, but I stopped by another Nordsrom store. It was BUSY, especially the ladies’ shoe department. I got DH’s his Seattle shoes, and ended up spending a whopping bunch of money on myself. I have never heard of Attilio Giusti Leombruni shoes, but they turned out to be the most comfortable flats I’ve ever tried on in a loooong time. So if you are looking for stylish, very comfy flats to wear to the office, give this brand a shot. Warning - they are not cheap. Nordy also had some Burberry rubber boots on sale (DD’s dream). I had to laugh - $160 for a pair of rubber boots that looks very similar to what I can get at a garden supply store for $20. :)

Will go ahead and say that I really can’t see turquoise jewelry with the justforthis’ gorgeous chocolate dress. Turquoise to me calls for flowing, gauzy, slightly hippie stuff. Not such a classy tailored dress. Just saying.

Sewhappy, I was wearing a gauzy brown sundress all day and thanks to your post, I put on a turquoise necklace and earrings before I went out to dinner. I like turquoise with brown, but mine is too casual for a dressy dress like the one in question. Others do own more dressy turquoise.

More on the AGL flats:

I have never seen a shoe with 62 reviewers giving it a 5-star average rating! I’m keeping my fingers crossed to write a nice review soon. :)

I love turquoise. I also love lapis. And I have some wonderful white porcelain beads with blue etchings that I bought in San Francisco China Town 25 years ago. I love blue jewelry with lots of different colored clothes.

Those flats are gorgeous, Bunsen. I’m lusting for them but not in my price range right now. Actually, I usually like a little heel or clog height. Feel short in flats. But those are definitely gorgeous flats.

I’ve been on and off CC for a number of years and have received much information and equal amounts of inspiration. At times I realize just how out of the loop I am financially when I see links such as this one for a pair of flats that cost about what I spend on groceries in a month!
I think I need to back to the decluttering posts!

bluejay, sorry about posting the link. For some reason, the shoe is not listed as being on sale on the website. Even on sale, it is more than I’d normally spend on a pair of flats, but I had a terrible luck finding flats that would look office appropriate and comfy at the same time. I walk a lot, and I also do not want to change into sneakers when I commute to and from work (ewww, stinky sneakers under the desk?). I have bought and taken back several pairs looking for a perfect pair of flats: Ecco, Clarks, Cole Haan, etc. I have had much better luck finding comfy heels! So I hope that these shoes will keep my feet happy for a long time and also keep me out of a foot doctor’s office.

For inexpensive, very comfy casual flats I recommend these:

[merona mary flats](http://www.target.com/s?keywords=merona+mary+shoe&searchNodeID=1038576|1287991011&ref=sr_bx_1_1)

Merona Mary shoe from Target. Cute, soft, comfy and spunky - I love them (thank you, bookiemom for your tip to look at Target!). But not exactly what would be considered an “office appropriate shoe” I still have my Me Too flats, but I do not recommend metallic finished leather - it scratches easily, and the finish rubs off leaving the shoe looking old and beaten up.

You might try the Sam Edelsen flats. DD has a horrible time with comfortable flats, she has narrow feet and high arches. I bought her a pair of Sam Edelsens at DSW, they stay on her feet, are super comfortable and she likes them. Nordstroms has some in the Annv Sale…I might spring for a second pair.
