Dressing Young (Part 1)

My turquoise is very dressy, however I also like the idea of pearls with that dress.

I have a pair of Sam Edelsons and I love them. Paid more than I wanted but they’re pretty and comfortable. The cut is such that it makes bigger feet look small…a huge plus for me with my “boats”!

I love to watch Audrey Hepburn - she of the little body, big feet - dance away in her lovely ballet flats.

Can you last a month wearing only 6 items from your wrdrobe?
[How to dress with just six pieces](http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/beauty/how-to-dress-with-just-six-pieces-2099156/#photoViewer=1)

LBD
jeans
tailored shirt
blazer
nice tee
black trousers

I do not think I’m going to make it unless I’m allowed to wear at least one pencil skirt :)

BB, I think I’ll try that. I’ll have to tell my students about the experiment, or they’ll make fun of me! High school can be brutal…even for the grown-ups.

Kork-Ease on Rue la-la! Very comfortable platforms.

I understand limiting one to six pieces if you’re traveling, but why bother if you’ve got your usual closet right where you are? If you want to limit yourself to the six pieces, you’ll need different shoes, scarves, jewelry, or you’ll literally be wearing the same outfits every week for a month.

Just bought a nice pair of flats in navy suede with a leather cap toe at Banana Republic…came in several colors…with a Gap charge yesterday everything was 25% off…yippee!

Just to see if I can. It won’t be six for me…maybe 10:two blazers, two nice shirts, two tees, two pairs of jeans, one pair of black trousers, maybe that dress if necessary (probably not needed for me).

If it works, then I can donate the remainder of the closet to Goodwill. I have a lot of surplus. I wonder how much money I’d save in a year only buying one or two quality items? Good experiment.

I’ll keep my shoes, though…

I didn’t see it in this blurb but somewhere I read that she used a few black blazers but counted them as one.

Well then I bet she also used a few white blouses and a few white t-shirts and a few pairs of jeans. That’s cheating!!!

Just catching up, here. This is a very dangerous thread!!

(will not go to Nordstrom, will not go to Nordstom, will not go…)

I have to agree with the thoughts about doubling up on the items in the list: I would more easily make that list work with duplicates so I didn’t have to do laundry so frequently.

But then, instead of 2 white shirts, why not a white and another color? Instead of 2 pairs of identical jeans, why not a blue pair and a black pair or a jeans and a denim trouser?

Reality (and laundry) have a way of complicating things.

And I go back to my original point: If you have your usual closet right where you are, why limit yourself to six items?

They’re cute as can be, but why are simple little ballet flats $200+???

Because they have her name on them.

I can never look at Tory Burch shoes without seeing the 6th grade girls at the local private school all wearing them. Plus don’t think I would spring for $200 shoes.

I had never heard of Tory Burch but I looked at the website…a few neat things, but those skirts are waaay too short. A couple of the dresses looked OK for length but most of the stuff did not appeal to me. Extra zippers and embellishment that I didn’t care for. It does look like a pretty good transitional line between junior type clothes and more traditional mature clothing lines. Probably much safer than shopping in the junior department.

I cannot embrace the “enhanced back zipper as cool design element” look.

Not sure why. I didn’t like it the first time I saw it many months ago, and I still don’t. I guess that should be enough! Though I think there is more to it.

^^I saw that dress also…like maybe “why” would someone do something like putting zipper as a design element LOL. I guess I’m just too entrenched in form follows function theories.

There’s some really ugly sandals around this summer also. Clunky, over designed, over the top. The TB website had some really cute shoes right next to some really ugly shoes. The whole collection felt like it was aiming at something for everyone. We were out to dinner the other night and my husband spotted a pair of ugly sandals and asked me why someone would buy them. I had no good answer.

Re: In Your Face Zippers
We attended a wedding last night. A few guests wore nicely shaped dresses with the aforementioned InYourFaceZippers (my term). I just don’t get the appeal. Is my age showing? Or maybe it is my life-lomg antipathy to gimmicks?
