That sounds right. I was looking at some Kooba bags on the sale rack at a local department store, and the salesperson said to me, “You should consider one of these beautiful Tory Burch clutches! This what all of you thirty-five year olds go crazy about!” Ahem, 35? I must have done a good job with my makeup. I like buttons and zippers as design elements, just not *that *kind of zippers. Didn’t Michelle O. start that back zipper trend?

I had to go to the mall today. DH desperately needed a solid blue shirt and a new tie (don’t ask ), thank goodness for the Nordstrom sale! OMG, the place was a zoo. I poked around the ladies’ clothes departments. They were sold out of most of the good stuff in smaller sizes. No wonder the Health/Diet/Exercise thread is going strong. I also chatted with a salesperson in one of the departments, and she said that they already sold out of some of the fancy designer fall collections. Apparently, they did not order enough because they were worried about the economy, and now they are scrambling to get more stuff in.

Training, VH! Getting my brain to understand that I don’t need 30 different tops and 14 pair of jeans. Maybe just a few will do. They said something about that we only wear 20% of our wardrobe, anyway.

It’s a reevaluation of my need for lots of clothes; like getting rid of junk food in the kitchen cupboards.

I like the junk food comparison.
One thing I hate: clothes that have been sitting in my closet with the tags still on them…for a long time. Anyone else have this going on? That’s it. No more. I don’t need to waste money!

Alumother, while waiting for my bus, I found refuge from the heat in the downtown Nordy’s, and they also had a guy with a microphone directing “shoe traffic”. I thought that liked this system much better than the pure madness and chaos of Macy’s shoe sales.

I took a closer look at my closet. No way I can last with only 6 pieces! Or I’ll be doing laundry every day of the week.

I am very smug cause I haven’t gone to the sale for years- after I realized that they got better stuff in after the sale anyway.
I do need some shoes ( who doesn’t?), but I also like uniforms. I wear the same kind of jeans and same kind of tees, however, JCrew only offers them periodically ( the tissue tees)and I don’t really like the others with embellishments and stuff as well.

“You should consider one of these beautiful Tory Burch clutches! This what all of you thirty-five year olds go crazy about!” Ahem, 35? I must have done a good job with my makeup.

funny but was that at Nordstroms? They take a lesson in hyperbole with their daily coffee, another reason why I don’t particularly like shopping there cause you can’t believe anything they say.

I was thinking about this thread this week because something very odd is going on in my office. We are involved in an American Heart Association program to raise money and improve fitness by walking. (don’t even get me started…) Anyway, to “nudge” people and because it is too hot for most people to be very interested in getting out and walking, our CEO decided that if we pay $5 a day we can wear shorts to work. We are in a downtown office building (corporate HQ for our company) and dress business casual with jeans on Friday. To see VPs walking around in shorts is pretty odd, especially with the socks and sneakers. I am too cold in this place for shorts, so I opted for the $1 a day for jeans option. I am a casual person, but I am not sure I am going to get used to my boss (fit man who wears his clothes well) walking down the hall in shorts. And you would not BELIEVE what some of the females are wearing…
BUT- already brought in $500 for the Heart Association!

^^ There’s an idea! The funny thing is that we had to really fight for jeans on Fridays and it was tied to achieving cost reductions (when the economy tanked). Now we are in shorts. We have our Board coming in the next two days, so senior management will NOT be in shorts and I will NOT be in denim. Our board is casual (no ties) but…

I used to work for a company went to “business casual” with the following rules:
No sleeveless.
No denim.
No open-toed shoes.

So there were tons of business-appropriate shirts from Lands End, Ann Taylor, etc that couldn’t be worn because they were sleeveless. And they justified the “no open toed shoes” thing by saying it was for “safety.” We were a call center for a financial services company! But my favorite part was a memo, pointedly aimed at the phone reps, that made all sorts of dire threats if anyone ignored the dress code. A few days later a female upper-level manager came in wearing a really cute sleeveless denim dress with peep-toe flats. Of course, no one said anything to HER…

So just curious my fashion forward friends – what do you scrounge around in? I’m moving right now - two decades worth of stuff to dispose off but at the same time lots of realtor meetings and friend wakes for my heartbreaking journey to new shores. Have to stay semi-persentable but able to work hard physically. So here’s what I find myself pulling on each day lately - the Title 9 dress made by Horny Toad with short sleeves and my trusty Dansko sandals or Joseph Siebel sandals OR my Lole dresses.

Just thought I’d share what works in a moment like this while your home of so many years just sort of evaporates beneath your feet. i just don’t find myself reaching for shorts or jeans in this moment. I feel as if I need to dress a slight big more formally?

I do a lot of gardening in my trusted Lole dress which I bought a couple of years ago at a Sportswise sale. Nothing sticks to the fabric of that dress, and it always comes out of the washer looking brand new. And if I need to run an errand in the middle of my yardwork projects, I just wash my hands, brush my hair, put on nice flats, grab my fancy Kooba bag, and off I go!

I’ve been wearing sturdy cotton capri pants and tee shirts lately for at-home work. I have two lightweight skirts I got at Eddie Bauer Outlet that are my new go-to choices for running errands and casual meetings, with a cute top or fancier tee shirt.

I am also on the same downsizing path, sewhappy, and I am so not happy about it. Also two decades worth of sorting to get through and also a heartbreaking journey to new shores. My wardrobe is in for serious pruning.

Booklady - go to You Tube and do a search on “how to tie a scarf” – there are some very helpful and entertaining little videos that show lots of different scarf possibilities.
