Count me in BB. Other than rings, scarves are my only accessory.

LOVED the piece about scarves, Bunsen, and I love scarves too! I always buy a scarf when I am traveling. I have three silk scarves my D brought me from Paris.

I love silk scarves and also love the cotton or similar that have become popular in the last few years.

And Booklady, I’m Bookiemom, and I love my accessories! (The Bookie is for books, not for gambling.)

I became a scarf junkie when I started my new job. My cube felt like a frozen tundra. Cashmere scarves from Nordy’s quickly became the staple in my wardrobe, and now I can’t stop. I crave scarves, even in amidst the summer heat. A few days ago I wandered into a Gucci store (don’t ask - it had something to do with a Gucci case for someone’s iPhone as a big birthday present , which, at $170 for a measly piece of rubber, is so not gonna happen!), and when I was talking to the sales lady, all I could think of was the gorgeous silk scarf elegantly tied around her neck…

bookiemom, I LOVED that story about scarves in Paris too, so I decided to share it with you all.

(These are my favorites, and they can be washed:

Skie, thanks, I’ll check it out. I’m all thumbs when it comes to doing anything spatial - I think my right brain is the size of a pea!

Hi bookiemom - I’m really, really good with anything related to print…except print scarves. ;)

Love the cashmere wrap/scarf, Bunsen. I think I need one of those for this fall and winter when island breezes are blowing in off the Pacific. I like the colors too. There’s a light green one on sale for half off.

Booklady: do you shop at Target? They have wonderful scarves if you look around regularly. I just bought a striped one today. Take a look and pick out one that goes with your raincoat or winter coat. I have a black/gray/metallic silver one that goes with my metallic gray trenchcoat. A really easy way to wear the long scarves that is popular right now is just to fold it in half once lengthwise and put the ends through that loop (hope that makes sense). You can do it!

In the book French Women Don’t Get Fat (or the sequel) she talks about French women and their flair with scarves. The author had some clever way of putting it, something like, “Every French bebe grows up with a little scarf around her neck.”

Well just Hello! I’ve got that nice scarf in the mint - goes with practically everything, I wear it around the house when I’m feeling insecure and just need that weight right there in that spot over shoulder blades . . . Also wear it with several blazers and cashmere/wool jackets. Have not worn it this summer in public. I do love that mint color . . . gonna go find it and warp up in it right now.

I love scarves, but consider myself a scarf klutz when it comes to wearing them. I tend to fuss with them through the day.

Do you wash the cashmere scarf by hand? How do you dry it?

I do wash my cashmere sweaters in the machine and lay them flat to dry, regardless of the care instructions.

We have a Target very close by, but I’ve never bought clothes there (I usually use it for household items). I’ll take a look next time I’m in.

Got this adorable top at a Lucy store today…for 10 bucks! Is is too young? The girl who sold it to me said she had one…and she looked about 16 ![]()
I thought it would be great with a pair of jeans or with one of my hippy skirts.

I love this thread and have been reading it starting from the end and working my way backward.

Bunsenburner, I thought you might want to know the Burberry flats you love are 48% off right now.

toneranger- the Zephyr top looks great and I don’t think it is too young for us. It says it is really thin, though. Do you think you need a tank top under it? I would wear that top to work under a jacket.

MOWC…it IS really thin. I have a white camisole (with a shelf bra) so I think that will work. Actually, I have LOTS of camisoles in different colors…I often use them in place of bras. I don’t need much support :)

keeponreaching - thanks! It is a good thing they ran out of my size before I had a chance to check back.
I did end up returning the AGL’s flats to Nordy’s, unworn. They were unbelievably soft and pleasant, but the “scrunchy” style makes my feet hurt after a while.

I got my fall Nordstrom catalog in the mail. I was all oohhh and ahhh about the styleas and clothes until I got to the page featuring some really strange looking pants. They were roomy enough in the seat area to fit over a pair of really fluffy Depends. God help us if that’s where the fashion trends are going!

Glad to hear that somebody else questions the whole Tory Burch allure. Its like I want to like her things (sort of updated prep which is what I like) but then there’ll be something offputting (aside from the pricetags!) and I always walk away. The bane of my existence is J. McLaughlin. Some things are SO dowdy but then there’ll be something unique that’s worth the $$. Sales are good there, too.

I overheard a woman ask a sales woman in the dressing room whether it was OK at her age to show a bra strap. She was trying on a strappy tank top and her bra straps were visible. She looked about 50 or so. The top itself was not that revealing, but the straps were thin. Any thoughts?

No, I don’t think so. It’s really a teen and college-age thing–for some.

I’ve found some bras this year that have wide straps that don’t look like bra straps if they show a little (looks like a cami or another tank top underneath). I also found a great bra from Moving Comfort hat has that kind of strap and also comes up higher than most bras with a layer like a tank top. That is great to wear with low V-necks. I have the bra in black, tan, and white and it’s really useful. You don’t have to wonder what’s showing–your bra IS showing, but it’s supposed to.

Remember what a big deal it was if your bra straps were showing back in the olden days?

^ Yep!

What is everyone here buying for fall?

Has anyone here ordered from Boden? I am obsessed with their online outfit maker. It’s like playing paper dolls –

Wow. That outfit maker is super fun. Thank you for the link.

Ooh, fall clothes discussion–fun. And it feels like fall here in Seattle today–61 degrees. So far I have bought gray skinny jeans and short black leather boots with a scrunched look. I’m thinking about a gray cashmere “boyfriend sweater.”
