That sounds like a good look, bookiemom. I bought some skinny jeans last winter, but need to re-lose the pounds I have put back on:(

I need to replace my boots and I like those scrunchy ones.

Definitely feels like fall, bookiemom! And the rain is back, too. I do need some new clothes (dress pants and jackets) for fall, however, I’m not ready to shop for fall clothes because we have not had much time to enjoy summer weather this year! Usually, I enjoy shopping, but this year I feel like a kid who dreads back to school shopping. :)

I love the Boden outfit maker but don’t very much like the Boden clothes . . . does anyone know of an outfit maker with really great clothes?

Okay, my bus ride home turned out to be a pricey adventure. I missed my transfer bus by a couple of minutes because some bum was harassing the driver of my first bus, so I got to hang out at the Rack for a few minutes. A pair of beautiful bordeux pumps fell off the shelf right into my hands :). The heel is really low (half an inch?), so they can be considered flats. I will wear them at home and decide if I want to keep them or not. So far, finding a perfect pair of work-appropriate flats has been a real challenge.
BTW, our Rack has shoes that look like returns from the previous Nordstrom sale (the one before the anniversary sale), and there are some really good deals on fancy stuff.

My next challenge: black (or dark brown), easy-care dress pants. Sigh. Does anyone have any favorites?

A while back, got a pair of black & a pair of navy dress slacks from Ann Taylor which I love. They were on clearance for under $10. Haven’t seen them since but they are supposed to be dry clean only but wash great & I’ve worn them a lot but they show no signs of aging. :)

I have some Geoffrey Beane slacks that I wear much less often but they show some signs of pilling.

Have some more casual slacks from Costco (Gloria Vanderbilt) that are nice enough for many of the occasions I need them for. There are some inexpensive dress slacks for women at Costco as well (they don’t have my size, so I’m not sure about the fit). Most of my slacks are from Ann Taylor, Costco & sometimes Banana Republic.

Well, I thought of this thread as I eagerly opened the package with my new, bravely-ordered-online-because-the-price-was-right Rock and Republic jeans. Had no real expectation that they would actually fit, but thought I would give it a try. In the picture, the stitching on the pockets was a little more ornate than I prefer, but, hey, the price was good. Who knew that it would be VERY SPARKLY in real life! They fit well (unless I need to breathe or something) and look good. Well, except that they are 9 feet long and would fit Taylor Swift. (and the sparkliness would actually be appropriate). I’m keeping them. Somewhat limited wearability, but they really do look good. I took them to be hemmed today. So- I am the proud owner of very tight fitting sparkly-butt jeans! I am just TOO cool!

Good for you! I can’t possibly own blingy-butt jeans, because as a Texas Cheerleader Mom that would be just too stereotypical…that would lead to growing my hair out and dying it blonde and a whole host of other unseemly things.

Good point. I guess it’s good I moved to Tennessee before I got the jeans!

Fall is probably my favorite season for clothes! I especially love getting new jackets and boots. Has anyone ever bought clothing from CAbi? They have this great fuchsia-colored jacket on their blog that is so cute for fall, and they also have a number of styles of dress pants and jeans that are designed to look amazing on women of all ages - I like the styles and so does my mom (and not just because I work for them :))

Yes, I have purchased some cabi clothes and been happy with them, I usually go to the local person’s clearance sale to keep the price down.

I am lusting after both the jeans and the jacket in this picture –

[Red Engine Boyfriend Jeans - Garnet Hill](http://www.garnethill.com/red-engine-boyfriend-jeans/175020?categorId=null&fromCart=true)

I am happy to say that for the first time in at least 20 years I have a pair of jeans that actually fit me. I went to Banana Republic, and bought a pair of their low rise skinny jeans. Hallelujah! The best thing since Landlubber hiphuggers!

I also bought a bunch of new underwear (goodbye, white cotton Hanes), and a buttery black leather jacket at a Talbot’s outlet. I can’t wait to wear it with my skinny jeans! Looking forward to colder weather.

I love those boyfriend jeans, sewhappy! Alas, I am both too short and petite to wear boyfriend jeans, I would just look like a pre-pubescent boy. My D, on the other hand, who is statuesque and curvy looks spectacular in them. (where did she get that body?? It’s a mystery to us all.)

I am once again on the hunt for a perfect cardigan – never can find the right one. I get distracted by pretty details. I want a plain one that has a flattering fit. Am considering this one: [Perfect Cashmere Cardigan - Garnet Hill](http://www.garnethill.com/perfect-cashmere-cardigan/womens-fashion/sweater-collection/cardigans-wraps/170460)
Although I’m in the mood for a dark chocolate brown. the search goes on…

They have a lot of cardigans at Banana Republic. There was one black cotton one that I am seriously thinking about. It looked good buttoned all the way up, loose, or just in the middle.

What is your preference for cardigan buttoning?

mousegray,

I think we petite women look very good in slouchy loose jeans. I am growing tired of the skinny jean look and just find these boyfriend jeans in Garnet Hill refreshing. That’s a lot for me to spend on jeans though. I love Garnet Hill sweaters. That cardigan looks like a real winner. Hard to choose which color - they are all lovely.

Consolation, I like my cardigans buttoned all the way up. I just can’t pull off that cute, care-free partially-buttoned-cardigan look that is featured in most cardigan ads. :(

I’m a loose unbuttoned sort. Hmm. Should we start picking teams?

sewhappy, my D’s bf jeans look great and they are Levi’s. I’m sure they were not that expensive if she bought them, being the bargain hunter that she is. I agree, they are refreshing looking, especially for my D. She was a real aficianado of the skinny girly jean, so is nice to see her looking more… slouchy? loose?

My DD insists cardigans should be so small you can’t button them. They “skim”. When I try them on I get her point, they are very cute just on the periphery of the outfit.

I have been on what feels like a perpetual quest for the perfect cardigan. I’m narrow shouldered, which I think adds to the challenge. Am starting to accept that I do better in little jackets than cardigans. I love the slouchy bf jean with little jacket look . . .

Do you guys think these shoes would be okay on a graying 50-something?

http://www.garnethill.com/converse-canvas-slip-on/womens-fashion/footwear/view-all-shoes-boots/12432

Also, these Gentle Souls shoes by Garnet Hill look very nice for fall -

http://www.garnethill.com/gentle-souls-suede-wedge/womens-fashion/footwear/view-all-shoes-boots/11042

Love your shoe choices, sewhappy! I think the Converse shoes would look great with “boyfriend”- cut jeans and a jacket. Go for it! I like the Gentle Souls wedge (I love wedge shoes), but can you wear suede shoes in the fall? Here in my neck of the woods fall rains make suede a very impractical choice for fall footwear.
