Dressing Young (Part 1)

I enjoy browsing this thread so much, but fully admit I cannot go anywhere near the prices of many of the items!

I wanted to share my excitement for a pair of jeans I found yesterday! Let it be known that I HATE the idea of jeans in warm weather but these felt WONDERFUL. Picture this: I will not spend over $50 for a pair of jeans, I am of average height (about 5’7) and could stand to lose a few pounds - your average mom-of-three-kids-a-little-thickening-of the waist type person - size 12. Do not like a heavy fabric.

Well, I tried on these skinny jeans - mom skinny jeans meaning not skin tight! All three of my kids - 13,18 and 21 were impressed! On sale now at Eddie Bauer for $40:

[Women’s Skinny Jeans | Eddie Bauer](<a href=“http://www.eddiebauer.com/EB/Women/Jeans/Skinny-Leg/index.cat#ppl={type%3A"hide"}]Women’s”>http://www.eddiebauer.com/EB/Women/Jeans/Skinny-Leg/index.cat#ppl={type%3A"hide"})

Mine are the first ones - modern fit slim crop jeans - they look SO cute with sandals or flats!!

I’m a happy camper. :)

OK abasket, I’m trying real hard not to order anything cause my closet is full and I really don’t NEED any more casual stuff. But I love those jeans…the only cropped jeans I have are cargo jeans and I’m sick of them. Plus these come in tall. Trying to resist…haven’t bought them yet!

Anyway, I have a black long cardigan from last year and I LOVE it. Wear it open over skinny jeans with flats. A chocolate brown cardigan would be on my list.

Tried some nice dress pants on at Banana Republic. In Long. They were WAY long on me…lol, and I’m real tall. Unless I put on 4-inch heels (yeah right). The regular pants are a 1/2 inch short. I don’t like paying extra for tailoring so I passed, but they DO have nice pants in that store.

The cropped length makes me real happy. Not the awkward capri length, not the long-reminds-me-of-winter length.

I love those jeans abasket. I am nowhere near an Eddie Bauer but I’m going to an outlet tomorrow. I wonder if I can get them there. Not that I need them but…

Maybe I can find free shipping…

Also what do you wear with boyfriend jeans. I have a pair but I never can figure out what to wear with them. idk everything seems awkward.

I picked up a darling pair of dark wash Gap cropped jeans last month that I have been wearing all the time since I bought them. They look great with cute sandals or flats and I have received many compliments on them.

I love cropped jeans, too. Have them in denim and white from NYDJ. The Eddie Bauer ones look wonderful. I like the really rich dark denim color and the fact that the fabric is soft and light.

Bunsen, agree on the suede issue. Suede shoes scare me. I was just struck by all the rave reviews for the shoes and have been wanting to try a wedge.

sewhappy - the reason I love wedges is because they are much more stable than other types of heels. Wedge boots seem to be a very popular trend this fall. Currently I’m lusting after these:

[Sofia Mid Wedge Boot](http://www.neimanmarcus.com/store/catalog/prod.jhtml?itemId=prod112480029&parentId=cat30720733&masterId=cat12310741&index=24&cmCat=cat000000cat000141cat000149cat000199cat2880735cat6170735cat12310741cat30720733)

Yeah, I know, I’m so able to afford them - in my dreams. But NM doesn’t charge for taking a peek at their website  I’m searching for lower priced alternatives that look similar (but not fakes, because I hate counterfeiters).

The Calvin Klein wedge boots look fairly similar. I like the little buckle on the back of the heel.

The stretch back is kind of weird, though.

Thanks, MidwestMom! I like Calvin Klein shoes, but I agree - the stretch back is rather unconventional.

I’m thinking of these (waterproof is always a plus in my rainy city):

It is going to be 90 degrees and sunny tomorrow, and I’m looking at fall boots - weird. :)

Totally agree with the stability/desirability of wedges.

Also love those NM boots…then saw the price. !!!

I really like this thread.

Unfortunately, I have absolutely no money to buy clothes – nor do I need any!! – but I do love this thread.

I got some really nice ankle skinny black jeans from Limited. I ordered them online (with a discount code and free shipping) and had them sent to my sister’s house in PA where I knew I would be this weekend to avoid sales tax. They arrived and I wore them today. I got up from my sister’s nice couch and the entire back of my nice, new, skinny black jeans was COVERED in white cat hair. Spent a lot of time with the roll of tape.

Confession: I took D out jeans shopping today and she found some great things at Buckle. I always make fun of the cheer moms who buy the blingy jeans at Buckle (way too young for them.) There was a black jacket hanging in the dressing room D was in…it was way to cute…black knit with a diagonal zipper and a ruffle at the bottom. Between my D and their terrific salesman, I bought it. Don’t tell anyone that I bought something for myself at Buckle.

posting to update

BB those boots are gorgeous! Way out of my budget ,too…

I love boots for fall/winter.

missypie - that jacket sounds cool and “age appropriate” ;)! I like things with zippers (but not dresses with long, contrast-color zippers on the back), and I shop at the Express store all the time, but have not tried Buckle (we just got one of their stores).

It is 10 am, not a cloud in the sky, 80 degrees and rising, and I’m still looking at fall boots :)

Gorgeous boots, bunsen. I actually like the second waterproof pair for a third the price more. I’m curious - how do you boot wearers wear your boots - over your pant legs? With dresses only? I’ve never got the hang of the boot thing. I usually get through the winter in Danskos with warm socks. Not very chic.

missypie - I like to shop at Aerospostale. Shhhhh. … don’t tell anyone.

sewhappy, I usually get two pairs of boots: tall ones to wear with dresses and skirts, and short boots to wear with pants and jeans. My commute to work is long and usually wet, so a good pair of boots saves me a lot of money on cold remedies. My Sofft booties are still in good shape, but my tall boots fell apart. Therefore, I’m checking every footwear-selling website looking for that perfect pair of boots…

sewhappy - I wear short boots with pants/jeans. Was in NYC last Feb. and seemed to be the only woman there who did not wear tall boots. Am thinking of buying a pair this year. I rarely wear dresses/skirts but I would with the tall boots.

Just read today that Liz Claiborne has sold their brand to …JC Penney! I haven’t bought LC for years but they were part of my wardrobe back in the 80s. Along with Jones. I walked into a Jones outlet last week and was amazed at the clothes. Very dowdy…cheap material too. I have to believe they have gone downhilll…or maybe my standards have changed? How things change…
