Dressing Young (Part 1)

When my D was a little cowgirl for Halloween one year, I made boot “sleeves” out of faux suede fabric and then drew western designs on them with Sharpies. She wore them over her pink rubber rain boots. If you were dressing up for Halloween I’d recommend this method highly. Adult party, not so much.

So as long as we are talking themed parties, what do you think I should wear to a Bastille Day party? If the weather cooperates we will probably be mostly outside.

Bastille Day? I’d go Edith Piaf, scoop neck top, little scarf at the neck, big belt and curvy skirt with a nice sandal.

TR - if you wear the hat and the bandana, nobody is going to look at your feet!

Hmm, so I looked at photos of Edith Piaf, I think the main thing I need is red lipstick and to pluck my eyebrows!

Bastille Day-themed party? How about dressing as Coco Chanel?

[COCO BEFORE CHANEL | SONY PICTURES CLASSICS](<a href=“Sony Pictures Classics | Homepage”>COCO BEFORE CHANEL | SONY PICTURES CLASSICS)

A classic dress, a string of pearls, a hat…

NOOOOOOO - don’t pluck your eyebrows!!!

I don’t know when I last went to a themed party.
Anyone headed to Nordstrom tomorrow?

Have done my preshopping at Nordstrom’s. This year you can take your purchases with you. I think the general public will be surprised at what is left!

NMinn, thanks for the heads up. As a memeber of the general public, I’m not going to rush to the stores. There was some cute stuff in the Nordie’s catalog.

I hit the Neiman’s online “last call” sale on Tue. Got a pair of wedges, 2 basic Wolford tees (major $$$$$, but they are so worth the money) and a *very fancy *dress for DD as a birthday gift. Saks disappointed me, and I was too late to scoop up the Lafayette dress I was eyeing at Nordie’s.

I don’t know how I feel about capes/ponchos.
I am under 5’5" and generally wear more fitted clothes.

I wore this dress in the silver color to a “black tie preferred” wedding last week. Many other women had a similar version, but this dress stood out as the prettiest. Thanks for the heads up.

I like the pearls. I liked the Coco with the featherless hats. (Quelle horreur!)

But I think I’d rather go a little more casual - so maybe crisp white blouse (with the pearls) and some sort of Katherine Hepburn-ish khaki pants. Or maybe the scarf - if I can find it I’ll wear the one I wore to a French wedding 30+ years ago.

mathmom, it looks like you are all set! I love your casual outfit idea. You can add some French perfume for a nice finishing touch.

Valleymom, yay! I think it was NMinn who found the lovely Adriana Papell dress.

Mathmom - that sounds wonderful. The only problem would be if I wore that outfit I would look a lot like I normally dress.

So this weekend is my stepdaughter’s wedding. I am wearing the black and cream dress, a couple of these bracelets

[Givenchy Bracelet, Silver Tone Glass Pearl and Crystal Stretch - Bracelets - Jewelry & Watches - Macy’s](http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=562724&PseudoCat=se-xx-xx-xx.esn_results)

Pearl drop earrings that I own - AND I was debating whether or not to wear a necklace.

I went to my jewelry cases and realized I had at lots of choices, from beautiful real pearls to a couple of faux pearl choices.

I wear my pearls all the time with oxford blouses and jeans. I guess I am perpetually ready for a Coco or Hepburn party.

I am boring.

I love the flutter dress. Just beautiful.

Special thanks to you, BB for the shawl links. I never would have considered gold with my dress, but honestly, it looks so good. I tried on a silver shawl, because the bracelets have some silver, but it looked blah with the cream part of the dress. So, gold it is. I am tanned, toned, and ready to go.

Now if I can just master the e.e.cummings poem I am to read at the beginning of the service, I will be fine.

Understand dear internet friends, I am trying to look good without looking like I am trying to show-up the MOB. As they say on FB, it’s complicated.

Workinprogress- I bet you will be a amazing StepMom of Bride. Enjoy.

Wnp, I’ve enjoyed reading about your quest to find just the right outfit for this wedding. You’ll look lovely. Have a wonderful time.

You will look wonderful!!! Enjoy the day! Wish I could see the total package! Have fun! :)

wnp, you’ve put together a wonderful outfit. Have fun and enjoy the day!

I have been following this thread with great interest. I will be the mother of the groom in late November and have bought this dress…

I need help with shoes and accessories! Do I wear shoes or sandals? What color? I can’t wear more than a 2 or 2.5 inch heel. Would love some help!
