So I went to Nordie’s today to check out Not Your Daughter’s Jeans which I had never noticed until you folks mentioned them. I tried on four different styles plus shorts. Is it because I am very long-waisted that they really looked like mom jeans on me plus made me look fat? The JAG Lucy, cut a bit lower, was much more flattering. I still like my Levi’s the best – cheaper and makes me look the slimmest.

I also tried the new Danskos sold exclusively by the Walking Company. They are the Professional style but with removable footbeds. Yeah, I guess they feel quite a bit softer. The size was dramatically different between the oiled version and the other Professionals in different materials. I am not sure I would pay the premium for this version, and it looks like the only Dansko that may work for my growing bunions is the oiled which I don’t really want. Among clog type shoes, I love the look of the Dansko and boost in height it gives.

Panhandlegal: Will have to check with my rheumatologist to see if a bunionectomy would take me out of the frying pan and into the fire by presenting a whole 'nuther set of problems. At any rate, I would wait until kiddo is off to college or at least has her license since I wouldn’t be able to drive/schlep for awhile.

I had a ( three screws) bunionectomy and while admittedly I have a high pain tolerance , I was attending school with two small kids when I had the surgery. So I used crutches, but I also drove and got around OK.

Cross-body bags are a hot fashion item right now…old ladies notwithstanding.

I have several Fossil bags in that vintage re-issue line. I’ve developed somewhat of an addiction to Fossil handbags. I get more compliments from women of all ages on those bags. There’s something very classic and classy about the all leather ones. Though, I’m not real keen on the fabric/leather bags.

I have small shoulders, so cross body bags are an essential.
I made the wise decision to buy 4 or 5 Daniel Green bags a long time ago ( he used to design for Coach), and just dug out a cross body flap w lock that is in excellent shape.

My kids have pilfered a couple other of my cross bodies- but I have resigned myself- at least they aren’t just sticking their wallet in their pocket anymore.

I just recently bought a roots messenger style bag. Very pricey but love it. Didn’t realize they put their stuff on sale - wish I had waited. :(

Ladies, if you are looking for a very comfortable, dressy pair of shoes, take a look at Anyi Lu brand found at Nordie’s and NR. I “discovered” this brand at Nordstrom Rack and then tried a few pairs on at Nordstrom. These shoes are amazingly well made, soft, and lightweight, and make you feel like you are walking on a cloud! I found this shoe in purplish-grey patent leather with fake snake detail:

I bought the Fossil crossbody bag and I love it. It will look very sleek as I visit different schools with all my testing materials in tow. This is a perennial dilemma for me. How do I transport an assortment of testing materials, files, a laptop, and a purse? I don’t need everything everyday - but the amount of stuff I have to lug from my car into a school seems to have grown over the years. Then I might need to take the stuff to another floor when I enter the building. I’m not sure there is a perfect solution>

BB - I think of Anyi Lu as being a cousin of Chie Mihara, and I think their shoes are really interesting. The Beren store, and site, is a go-to spot for good shoes.

I like this (mostly like the colors), but don’t have a clue about what would work with it, i.e., shoes or tights?? Going to a political fundraising dinner with my H at a local upscale hotel (it’s in October–so it will probably be cool outside). Any suggestions?

When I see those colors, I think of warm brown suede, maybe in a high cut shoe or bootlet. I don’t have the legs to pull that off, and it is probably too informal a look for the function. . .Umm, I am not the one to ask for style advice!

Love the colors of the dress by this very bipartisan-sounding brand. I think suede shoes and Wolford Velvet Deluxe tights would pair well with it; if the weather gets really icky and cold, a cozy suede boot and a lightweight wrap will complement the dress nicely.

OK need some help…I’m planning on attending a black tie benefit and need some help. I have the dress–very basic and elegant–long sleeved, black (flowy material), emphasis on bust (an asset, if i do say so…). I’d like to get some zippy (for lack of better term) shoes. I must have a low-ish heel, no higher than 2 inches and that’s a stretch. would prefer a kitten heel, more like 1.5 inches…But I"m not sure how ‘zippy’ such a shoe would be…I went to a wedding recently and the bride wore–surprise–red pumps with her gown and it gave me the idea of wearing surprise shoes with this dress to give it something unsuspected…A) what do you think of the idea? and B)what do you suggest??

Mafool: with a teal skirt, I would wear either a print top with some teal in it, or a solid white. maybe add a scarf with some teal to bring it all together.

Beil: with a long, formal gown, I might wear some strappy pumps. A slingback heel is always elegant. Maybe a gold or silver pump would give it pizzazz, as would a red!

Tying the shoe and handbag color would look great as well!
