Beil: Deep red sounds sexy to me; do other deep jewel tones like purple might also be good peeping out.

I love red shoes. If they were good enough for Dorothy they are good enough for me.
I can’t wear such pointy toes, but I love the way the Poco pump looks and that’s as much heel as I am willing to wear…

mafool - I think that’s a really hard color to shoe well. And booting it even harder. Aubergine would be good for a pump.

Alumother, I agree, it is a hard color to shoe and boot. :)

mafool: maybe you can draw some inspiration from Gucci’s Fall 2011 collection that featured a lot of teal tastefully paired with purple and deep wine? For example:

Of course, when in doubt, the fallback positon is whatever black boots you can find in your closet. :)

Beil: if the dress is floor length, a peep-toe pump, d’orsay or slingback could look great with it. Something like this - shimmery, silverish, with a kitten heel:

I’m not so sure about bright red pumps with a full length black dress. If the dress were short, the complementary color shoe idea works, but not when you want to keep a clean line from waist to floor. I like Bunsen’s suggestion of adding a little color via sparkle.

Love the colors in that Gucci outfit!

Those Via Spiga boots would look smashing with the teal skirt - just make sure the skirt is short enough to accommodate the boot height.

Mafool - if you need to make purchases that have versatility - I have a friend who has an outfit that is the same color and she wears black tights, boots, t-neck - BUT uses chunky, bold, red jewelry and it looks awesome. The red really pops. She also wears her skirt with black pumps, white blouse, and a scarf with teal accents and lots of silver jewelry. I love the color of the Phoebe boot, but I need to have multiple matches for my purchases.

Beil - I vote for the Jimmy Choo Glittered Kitten Heel. My stepdaughter wore sweet open-toed purple shoes with her gown and they looked adorable, but I am not sure the surprise color with black has the same impact. I think a little bit of sparkle brightens things up and keeps the eye to your assets!!

Bell, if you wanted, for any reason, to give the nod to recent trends, you could do that Rosina shoes in a multi-color glitter.

And of course Mr. Louboutin started it all:).

Those Louboutin’s make my mouth water :)

Yes, the CLs are amazing!

Here is another “piece of shoe art” (the price and the heel height make them more appropriate for a museum display than for a typical closet shoe rack :)):

While looking for a picture of a teal/other colors combo, I found this video of Guicci’s 2011 Fall collection presented in Milan - the colors are stunning:

It is about 15 minutes long.

…If only I could wear a higher heel AND had an extra 2 grand to splurge on shoes!! The high heel isn’t an option for my feet. The d’sorsay may work…I just love the multi-colored sparkle. Hadn’t thought of that option… You guys are great!! Your search engines are working overtime!! —Now to find a multi-colored sparklie Kitten Heel! ----With a peep toe!

oooh, BB. The gucci video has me drooling. Those are MY colors!

Now I just need the attitude!

Went crazy and bought J Brand Houlihan Skinny Cargo Pants. Then bought some sky high (for me) wedges to go with them. Munchdaughter commented that “…those are not usual mom jeans … they are not ten dollars …”

I think I am showing signs of age.

So many beautiful things at Gucci! Really enjoyed the video - the clothing has a 70s feeling - tie blouses, longer, fuller skirts, menswear. Much of it is very wearable for 40-50-60 somethings. Love the colors - I’m going after teal this fall. Those completely sheer skirts are atrocious, though - the models look great, but everyone I’ve seen photographed in the skirts looks ridiculous.

Something strange - I was in LA last month with my family. Bought 3 pairs of very skinny pants at Fred Segal - white, tan and dark gray. Thought they looked great with longer tops, and felt very cool wearing them in LA. Now, back home on the east coast, they look foolish. I tried one pair on the other day, looked in the mirror, and realized that I cannot be seen in public wearing them. What up with that? Are styles so different on the coasts? The strange thing is that they looked very different to me - great in one place and horrible in another. They are still hanging in my closet as a reminder of my (apparently) alter ego.

I want that purple coat that appears at the 1:50 mark!

Gourmetmom : I just got back from the west coast and I did buy these jeans in LA. Skinny jeans and flip flops look so right around So Cal.

Gourmetmom, your story reminds me of my times, years ago, in Santa Fe and Tucson. That gorgeous turquoise jewelry that looked SO good on me in the southwest looked quite odd to me in Michigan.

Context. Who knew?
